Loretta Swit aka 'Hot Lips'

I love MASH a terrific cast which got better as some left, not an easy thing to do.

Swift is one of a rare breed you don't see these days, an actress who was prepared to play the butt of the jokes each week. I loved her and Frank, great teamwork.

Growing up we had wonderful comedy actresses Thora Hird, Dora Bryan, Peggy Mount, June Whitfield, Molly Sugden, Pat Combs, Joyce Grenfell and Hilda Baker to name but a few.

They all had one thing in common they were prepared to be the unpopular / stupid / arrogant character all in the name of getting a good laugh. Wonderful comedy ladies who were prepared to do and act unladylike.

Unfortunately today's crop of actresses are all feminists and refuse to do anything other than be a "strong woman". If you want to know why comedy is no longer funny that is one of many reasons.

RIP Hot Lips

And please don’t forget the wonderful Irene Handle. Her wife in I’m All Right Jack opposite Peter Sellars is total genius.

She was great. As was Margaret Rutherford.
My favourite is Kathleen Harrison because as well as being brilliant she reminds me of my nan.
