Loaned-Out Players

Another big tick in Imray's box is how well he bonds with his teammates. It's one of the things coaches he has worked with have raised, and it comes through in the documentary Palace did on the youngsters a couple of years ago. A big obstacle could be the competition he faces from Kphora and Cardines.

People talking about Ozoh's performances for us, but that was when he was 18. He already has a lot of top-level experience under his belt for a 20-year-old. We should really be trying to get him to sign a new contract, as he's already got to be worth £5-10 million given his age and performances for Derby. I still think we'll see him playing with us next season, but who knows.

We should not be selling Ozoh. I wasn’t impressed when he played for us but as you say that was 2 years ago and we need more squad players.

I saw Derby a few times on TV.. Ozoh was okay but because he is a big unit he is slow to react which I guess is why Glasner sees him as a future centre back.

He's not terrible but is not better than what we have so I would sell if the right offer came in.

That’s my view. Has good qualities but looks very slow by EPL standards when I’ve seen him play. That might be ok if he was super creative or a wonderful passer but that’s not his game. I think he is probably a decent Championship midfielder but that might be his level.

When we look at our younger or loaned players I always ask how would we feel if they hadn’t come through the academy and we were buying them. I don’t think anyone would be very excited in buying a decent but not outstanding Championship player.

Wait and see what the manager thinks. You can be sure he’ll be looking at his possible freebie solutions as well as expensive ones.

If he can be turned into a strong footballing centre half then I’d be all for keeping him.

With squad players Lerma and Hughes not as strong these days due to their age we need younger players like Ozoh on the bench to also be able to bring on. A season as our squad player will show if he’s likely to make it with us? Same goes for Imray?
I think Imray has a better chance. Really not convinced by Ozoh, playing for Derby I saw the game pass him by. To be a good defensive midfielder you have to read the game and be quick to react.

I live in the Midlands so know some Derby fans and a West Brom fan, they both rate Ozoh and Imray respectively.

I think they’ve earned a chance in the squad, we’ll need the homegrown players for the Europa right?

That said all players have their price so depends on what we get offered/if the manager rates them.

From one of the click bait sites:

"
One signing that would create unbridled joy around The Hawthorns was if loanee Danny Imray made a permanent return.

The Crystal Palace loanee was a shining light at right-back under Morrison and crucial to Albion going on a 10-game unbeaten streak, which ultimately kept the Black Country outfit in the second tier.

After being unleashed from the shackles of Eric Ramsay, ‘Mozza’s’ 4-4-2 system allowed Imray to maraud forward down the right-hand side and act like a second winger, with the front-footed full-back notching one goal and two assists from 16 league appearances, with Man of the Match displays against Hull City and Watford.

Mixing such impressive attacking displays with his dogged defensive duties, it’s clear to see why Albion fans want Imray to remain on the club’s books, and if a signing can get over the line, then there would be massive optimism about how the 2026-27 term plays out."

We should be keeping him as the long term replacement for Munoz when he leaves.

It's interesting as Cardines looked ok too. It would really be something to have two academy players of a good enough level.

I like the look of Cardines, I would say put him at no 2 to Munoz this season, give Imray one more year on loan and then offload Munoz at the end of the season. Two ready made youngsters to challenge each other. We have to make the most of what we’ve got rather than forking out multi millions on mediocrity.

Disagree, other way round would, imo, be better. Imray is a natural RB/RWB, Cardines can play across backline & in midfield, useful squad member.

Agreed. If, as it seems, Sage will also play with wing-backs then Imray for me is the obvious choice to be Munoz's back-up; he's had that attacking streak in him from day 1. Cardines has talent and does seem more versatile, so as you say, use him as a squad member as we do Devenny.

These are also the sort of players we'd be looking at if we didn't already have them. And, to be harsh, they'll be on lower wages as well.
