Sorry yes got the first letter right š¤¦š¤šSmurf had left Palace about 5 years earlier . I seem to recall MacGolderick got a late goal for us that gave us a bit of hope for the return leg

Murphy was one of our best players but largely forgotten these days.Sorry yes got the first letter right š¤¦š¤š
I still say heās not, Steve Coppell built a team that finished 3rd from players that came from Bristol Rovers, Crewe, Aylesbury, Dulwich Hamlet, Ten-em-bee etc etc, that will never ever be repeated with all the money being thrown around now. We were 7 minutes from winning the cup with him as well.
Yes Glasner won us the cup and he improved players and in our prime under him we were very enjoyable to watch, but heās still second best to sir Steve for me

Perfect warm up though šGreat memories under Coppell but the game now is incomparable. Back then the english game was technically terrible, the players pre match warm up still included a couple of pints and pack of crisps, yeah we finished 3rd, playing hoofball all season.
who spud he was ok , was due tobe subbed against stoke scored while standing with the palace supporters , ok maybe not that far , sub told to sit down and I think we got a draw , talking about how funny it was on the train back to londonMurphy was one of our best players but largely forgotten these days.
And no Dick Graham?!What a load of s***. Allardyce ffs

Agree 100 percent. Coppell any day of the week. Bromley Monkey's point about the paucity of resources he had to work with is the telling point.I still say heās not, Steve Coppell built a team that finished 3rd from players that came from Bristol Rovers, Crewe, Aylesbury, Dulwich Hamlet, Ten-em-bee etc etc, that will never ever be repeated with all the money being thrown around now. Very talented player indeed. There was something very special about that late 70s Youth Cup (twice) winning team that formed the core of the team that won the old second division.Murphy was one of our best players but largely forgotten these days.
He could open a tin of peas with his left foot.Murphy was one of our best players but largely forgotten these days.

I asked ChatGPT and statistically our top 3 Top-flight managers ever are:Pulls, big Sam, coppell, veners, Allison.
As palace managers they were better. As employees of palace no OG has won the best. There is a difference imo. Pulis bit dodge yes but had the results and team at heart for a while.

I always felt Coppell had a bit of an unfair reputation for being tactically dour. There was a period, for example, where Eddie McGoldrick played as a sweeper in the top flight. At other times we played with four in midfield but a narrow three (Pemberton overlapping on the right).Agree 100 percent. Coppell any day of the week. Coppell put in years and years. By comparison Glasner has breezed through. And Steve Coppell NEVER thought he was too good for the place, unlike the present incumbent.
Incidentally, it is a pointless argument to award the gong to Glasner on the basis of the claim that football is more sophisticated nowadays. You can only deal with what's in front of you and Coppell did, year in, year out. Only one legend in this comparison and it isn't the one who threw all the toys out of the pram.

FSA seems quite a useful comparison to me. His trick was arriving in January, averting near certain relegation and effing off again. Glasner spends two seasons, achieves things your club never quite managed before and effs off again. I suspect a third season would be like his compatriot Hasenhuttl's at Southampton; so I'm not too resentful it won't be happening. He's done us quite nicely and it isn't over yet; it's starting to look much as though the 'excuses' of injuries and fixture congestion were true reasons. I can't see the point of trashing a manager's reputation when such things happen. It's true we should have had a bigger squad amd he's put his hand up to that. Hopefully from October to July is long enough for the football directorate to find an effective replacement although the centre back precedent could be more reassuring. (I'd be surprised if Frank Lampard turned out to be that person though less so if we have to find out the hard way.....Palace always do things the hard way....it's getting very late...next cliche from someone else please)What a load of s***.
