The trade passing through Algiers en route. The boys mostly castrated & the girls 'Groomed'. The value at auction depending upon the quality of the goods. Ship-masters protected the girls from pregnancy* cos you got much less money for a pregnant one. A bit like the Logistics trade today wherein you must ensure your biological cargo doesn't spoil.
