Blimey Eddie! Decimal currency - how very modern - I'm talking shillings and pence. My memory these days will not recall how many, but 3 shillings and 6 pence comes to mind for the Holmesdale terrace. I'm sure Willo remembers how much he paid in the early 60s.

We win the conference league last season and now we compete in the 2nd tier European cup for the first time in our history and probably our last

I've just seen how many tickets are left. I'm predicting around 17k will be in attendance

It's a joke. Even west ham sold 42k for a mid week carabao cup game against Fulham and were struggling to scrape together 20k for a European fixture

Where the hell are all our fans? Will surely get alot of stick from rival clubs and we deserve every bit of it

The same people who can't be bothered with this game are the same people who didn't turn up last year till Fiorentina. But made sure people who had been to all of the conference league games were unable to go to the final due to having more "Parish Points"

How many of our fans genuinely live in the area any more? That's what I tend to find the issue with midweek games. I notice the majority travel from other places. I'd say we're mostly from the area but the majority of us don't live there anymore.

4-5 hour round trip for me these days and never a pleasant journey, however, I choose to do it - car or rail. Especially the journey home, where I question why why why do I put myself through this. 🤣

I can vaguely remember the bus journey back to Wallington with Dad after we'd lost. Hardly a word spoken.

I cannot believe the collective apathy towards this match.

This is our first Europa League game and potentially our last season in Europe for a while. European nights under the lights at Selhurst Park are something we have dreamed of for decades, yet here we are two days before match-day and we have thousands of unsold tickets.

Embarrassing.

Probably because we've been pony this season, it's on a school night, it's another 40 quid to be found in a 'cost of living' crisis, some of the players can't be arsed so they can't be arsed too. I think there's also a bit of a disconnect at the moment between the fans, players and manager due to so many new faces arriving. We've lost our best ever manager and star players - players that you felt would give their all for the team, and replaced them with mediocrity. To me it has echoes of the 'Team of the 80s' where we had a really good period and then it all falls apart.

Or perhaps a lot of people feel the same way I do about European football, and that's a bit meh. Winning in Europe comes nowhere near as close to winning the FA Cup for me.

That said, I'll be doing my usual 120 mile round journey (after work) which means getting back home around midnight, then having to get up again at 6 am for work, but I don't judge those who won't be going for whatever reason.

I’d disagree with quite a lot of that. There are perfectly legitimate reasons why some people can’t make a Thursday night, but I don’t think the empty seats can simply be explained away as people being “meh” about European football or because we’ve been poor this season.

And the “another £40 in a cost-of-living crisis” argument is fair for some people, but it doesn't explain everything either. Plenty of fans spend £60+ on a Premier League ticket and travelling to Selhurst, and this is a unique occasion rather than just another ordinary league fixture.

As for the new players/manager disconnect, that's a completely separate argument. You can dislike the direction the club is going in and still recognise that your club playing its first ever Europa League match at Selhurst Park is something worth turning up for.

And personally, I think the comparison with the 1980s is a bit dramatic. We've literally just come of winning the Conference League trophy, and now we're about to play in the Europa League for the first time. That's not exactly “European football is a bit meh”.

Millwall would have had more fans already turn up at the den already this season at home to Norwich, and for Wrexham on a Wednesday night for a championship match than what palace are to expect tomorrow evening. And we're meant to be the Premier league club and the biggest in south London. .. . . . . . . . Says a lot in my opinion
