Agreed on all points yes. I think "Palace men" come in different forms and being local is certainly one aspect of it. That said, Madueke / Bostock and no doubt many others show this is just part of it. Mark Bright is as Palace as anyone I can think of but he's from the midlands I think originally.
Once Lacroix deal is over the line I urge everyone to be prepared. The media will see we have money to spend and link us with all sorts from the usual suspects to your friend that had trials at West Ham. Bonkers season will ensue. Even more so if another leaves i.e. Mateta. I suspect the Matsima deal will happen soon after, I would have it at roughly 22m + addons if i were a betting man. Which would leave us with 30m for Sage to get his targets and/or for Hobbs to show us what he can do. Never will know how the "negotiations" went but I believe another 10m was left on the table. and I feel like even just that amount to make it 40m could do alot more than 30m in this market.

Just because there wasn't an official bid doesn't mean Arsenal didn't want him. They weren't prepared to meet the price and, mistakenly, went for Pepe.

Yes Olise 50m does now seem 30m short at the time , but he was still injury prone then , so if we had kept him and his injurys get worse then we would have been lucky to get 25m , so not so much of a joke in real time , as they say hind sight is a wonderful thing

The most annoying part of this is our success has benefited the players more it seems than the club.
It’s a horrible thought but you get the feeling that most players just look at us as a short term location to show their talent then reap the benefits of an onward move.
Name another top tier club that has lost the combined ability of Olise, Eze, Guehi and Lacroix in such a short period of time without properly replacing them? I can’t think of one.

They were all probably going to go anyway. Nice to have them all at the same time and win somthing with them. 🙂 We won't look back in 10-15 years and think "what if".

Also, as there was a release clause - it's hardly a joke if a club meets the terms and the player wants to go. At least, it seems, there is a sell-on clause which could earn us upward of £15m if he moves to the pinnacle that is Real Madrid, the 15 times winners of the European Cup/Champions League.

Including Lacroix is unfair as how can you expect him to have been replaced by someone who's immediately at his level?
As for the other 3:
- Sarr has already in 2 years done more than Olise ever did (given Olise's njuries)
- Pino is rapidly improving and he's not a World Cup Winner for nothing. I expect him to perform at a level that will match Eze
- We already have Guehi replacements in the squad in both Riad and Canvot. They both need more time for somewhat different reasons to show their worth. The Guehi of 2021 (when he joined) was nothing like the one we sold last January.
Bournemouth have lost 4 defenders plus Semenyo and Ouattara in the last 2 years and still come up smelling of roses because ultimately it's not about individual players but about how a team gels as we showed in both the cup final and the Community Shield.
Newcastle have been seeing their top players hoovered up in recent times; Anderson to balance the books. Isak, Tonali and Gordon come to mind.
It's not just 'poor old Palace'.
I'm ready to be shot down here... but am I the only person who isn't that unhappy with this? If we had to sell any high value player this summer - I'd have chosen Lacroix. He's a solid defender but I don’t think he's a world beater.
