Both Labour and the Tories are in immense trouble now thanks to Reform. Labour are certainly in a better position to see off the threat but as things stand, not sure they have the IQ bandwidth to grasp that. And they do have to grasp it because they literally, as things stand, having nothing meaningful to counter Reform with. They are not going to do anything to stop the illegals showing up, they cannot raise taxes.

Hence why ditching Net Zero is the only option open to them in terms of proclaiming they are listening.

In one breath you refer to net zero as "lunacy" and in the next refer to others as being of low intellect.
 
Somebody needs to correct me with facts on this but Rachel Reeves has instructed cabinet ministers to award contracts to British companies rather than potentially cheaper alternatives from abroad. Isn’t this something we can actually do now due to Brexit as previously contracts had to be put out to tender EU wide?

One of the reasons I voted for Brexit is that MPs / Government continually made unpopular decisions which they blamed on the EU. Often it was BS and they were just using the EU as a scapegoat. Same as they blame ECHR when they don't deport some scumbag.

Other EU countries somehow always seem to look after their own, they would find a way regardless of the rules (Yes France I am looking at you).

So now there is no hiding place. If the government wants to award contracts to externals then they need to stand up and make the case.

Buying British isn't always best but there should be a bias towards it unless there really is a better offer elsewhere.

So let's hope Labour do buy British.

I would also like to see a bias towards British, assuming we still make anything?

However, it would have to be an accommodated factor in a broader assessment of best value. If it is front and centre, the pressure on our companies to produce the best will drop as they know they will have cushy government deals. Look at defence.

There's a by-election in Aberdeen shortly, it'll be interesting to see how the granite city votes given the SNP's headline yesterday and Labour's refusal to back North Sea drilling.
 
Blair talking a lot of sense today - apart from the EU nonsense of course.
