I went to a brewery very close to Spurs and paid well over £8 for a hazelnut stout many years ago. And I highly commend the Cask at Pimlico but you will need a second mortgage! Let's be honest and say the meaning of life will never be answered in a 'spoons!

At least this makes a little more sense. Mandleson was clearly not suitable for the job from day 1 and the system, at least, seems to have recognised this.

The news this morning is reporting that the PM only found out on Tuesday this week, after all the questions at PMQs and evidence given at the select committee, that's more than a stretch.

That no one knew does seem impossible, I think Sir Olly will be back to the Select Committee very soon, just to add the very highest vetting process could be overwritten by a civil servant. And MI5?

Watch the old Yes Minister shows the civil Service run rings around ministers and take pride in baffling their expectations i thought a new born baby in swaddling clothes new that!

I love that show and it's still relevant today.

The US Ambassador is the plum job in the diplomatic service and usually goes to a long serving diplomat whose paid he's dues in far away unglamorous places, for many years (s*** holes if you like). So it's often their last job before retiring as a thank you. These days it's not nearly as important as leaders just pick up the phone and talk to each other.

So I would have thought that when the PM nominated Mandelson the Foreign Office Civil Servants would be miffed it wasn't one of their own and would happily undermine the process. The only reason I can think of why this Foreign Office official overrode the failed vetting is that someone told him to.

When Harold Wilson appointed his son in law (TV Pundit Peter Jay) to the same post there was uproar in the FO at the time as he wasn't one of them.

That's why it stinks, someone is not being truthful here.

Well if going to S*** holes is a qualification then Mandelson is the man for the job!

Key to this now is Olly Robbins. Clearly the fall guy. And due to give evidence next week. Supposedly 'furious' at being forced out of the Foreign Office.

Always need to keep one eye on where people like this go onto AFTER they leave Government. Thats how the system works. The lecture circuit, the consultancies, the NGO's etc. That is what tells you who was pulling the strings all along.

Suspect the fix is in already. But maybe we will all be surprised next week? Starmer clearly has a teflon quality but for how long?
