Labour Party politics

I can guess where your political allegiance lies and, like me, it is not with Labour.

However, my broad allegiance lies with what is good for this country, whoever is in power. I have made comments on here that I was heartened by last year's Strategic Defence Review which set out the defence plan for the next 10 years. Even the military - who always moan to secure more money - purred.

And now this. I do not like enough about Labour to vote for them, but I find it impossible to celebrate this resignation. It signals very bad things for the defence of this country that, far from meeting the 3% pledge, it is going to be business as usual with defence continuing to be cut to the bone in real terms.

This is very depressing.
Good post silvertop. We are both as one in terms of our political leanings, but John Healey was one of the most straightforward Labour ministers who demonstrated sound views and opinions.

I rarely comment here on political issues, but Healey's resignation makes a very serious statement about the parlous state of our dreadful government and the risk they are imposing on our stricken country.

Be interesting to see if Burnham commits to the 3%.

I am not sure Healey is correct about this, Sir Keir says he is delivering an unprecedented increase in defence spending.

There is much more to it, why does the UK have aircraft carriers in the far east for example, Wilson withdrew from there.

😎

The West is seemingly gearing up for a major war within the next 10 years despite zero public appetite for it. Because this is not defensive. NATO is as aggressive as f***.

Didn't withdraw. Just didn't commit (openly) to Nam.

Why are we there? I could look it up but a wild guess. We are currently very cosy with the Japanese going 3 ways with the Italians to build the next generation fighter jet. Perhaps this is some joint operation with them and projection of power to the Chinese?

Al Carns was an outside tip for leader. 2 competent politicians gone because Starmer prioritizes maintaining ballooning welfare costs to keep the majority of his party on side and him in seat.

Mind you, if Labour had one leader who may convince me to vote Labour it is Dan Jarvis. He must sit in that Cabinet and feel very over qualified.

Hardly a Boris mass resignation is it. He probably wanted to put the rabid curs of the right wing in quarantine.
Add in Louise Haigh, Tulip Siddiq, Andrew Gwynne, Lord Cryer, Anneliese Dodds, Lord Hunt, Vicky Fox croft, Lord Moraes, Rushanara Ali, Angela Rayner, Lord Mandelson, Josh Simons, Ashley Dalton, Miatta Fahnbulleh, Jess Phillips, Alex Davies- Jones, Zubair Ahmed and Wes Streeting and hardly anyone has resigned.
