Our mate Kammy got huge reviews 1st season in & booed when he got sent off

He improved ( hold my judgement on “ came good “ )

He didn’t in my view give ROI for his wages

Even JPM got a few ….” Why did we buy him “ until Plymouth game.

So BJ …… Thoughts - Will he come good ?

We hope it comes good when BJ is involved, but it's never a guarantee.

He won't come good at RWB.

Nor something I'm sure people would want to contemplate, but could Sarr be in demand in the summer - perhaps even by Glasner's new club?
Sarr's exit, although unrequited, would leave an opening for Johnson in his more natural position.

That's if you want to see us slide further. He has little bite, and is a lightweight. £35m for a right wing back?

From what I’ve seen so far, he can’t go past a player, his ball control is average. His set pieces are worse than average and he doesn’t score any goals, he can’t play at wingback and he can’t play left attacking 10 position.

Apart from that he’s pretty good. I mean £35m as backup to Sarr is great value isn’t it.

I remember when we signed him and seeing comments from some Spurs fans saying that he does absolutely nothing but tap the ball in at the back post and that he only did that as he had Son putting crosses in on a plate for him.

I remember thinking that they were probably just being a bit salty... Turns out they were speaking the truth. He literally offers nothing.. Not even the tap ins at the back post!
I'm really struggling to see what we've paid £35m for to be honest.

So far, not great. But I dont see why we'd write him off now.

We all know by now about how narrow Glasner plays the 2 wide forwards. So narrow that he calls them 10s.

Looking at his early days at Forrest, he plays right on the line. Punishing people with his pace and whipping balls in. We are the antithesis of that.

Cant find a decent vid of his Forrest prem season.

Then looking at spurs highlights, some tap-ins sure, but lots of great finishes. But much the same pattern, assists from wide positions, goals come from getting in the box from opposite wing crosses.

At least to me at least its pretty clear what he does, and does well. Unfortuently ignoring the RWB games.

- if he plays as a wide 10, he is playing pretty centrally. A position where ball control>speed.
- there are so little crosses from the left, and if they are, they are not early balls into space, its into a congested box.

In OG's system, I contend that Muñoz has been our most valuable player, a disciplined and tireless defender and a relentless attacker. So big money for the position isn't crazy.

Brennan Johnson is not Muñoz, though, and as everyone on this thread will agree, we haven't put BJ in a position to show off his strengths.

Just as a matter of interest, what are his strengths?

I thought he was supposed to be a winger, but when played on the wing he has been as anonymous as any other position. What is his one and only position supposed to be?

He's quick, he finishes well, and he has a good sense of positioning himself where teammates can deliver either through balls or cut-backs into the box. Just as Wharton excels at knowing where to find open space for his teammates, Johnson at Spurs seemed to know where to find space so teammates could find him.

When have we played with wingers? Glasner plays with narrow number 10s and wingbacks. No wingers in his system

Firstly, where are these rave reviews Kamada got? Certainly not from any Palace fans i've spoken to.
But back to the point, BJ is being played out of position in every sense. He was a silly and desperate purchase. As an out and out winger, maybe. But my strong fear is we've wasted $35M on a championship quality player.

I think you’re getting your Johnson’s muddled up🤣 Andy yes, Brennan…..nah!!

Yes i know, we haven't had a winger since Yannick Bolasie. I said when he played "on the wing" - which he did, and he did sweet FA.
I do get annoyed when multi million pound earning professional footballers can apparently only play in a single position, and if / when turn out to be not very good, people complain oh but they aren't being played in the right position. So i am still bewildered about what Johnson's one and only position is, if someone can enlighten me!

Well if he is supposed to be good at anticipating low crosses from the opposite side of the pitch he will have a long wait for the ideal situation as long as Tyrick is our option for such crosses 😉.

Or his instruction is be ready to protect the right back. That seems to be the MO for Glasner and if he loses the ball he can’t do that. He can’t suddenly become rubbish. There is normally a reason.
