As others have said, seemed a great young pro and certainly had a couple of memorable moments for us. Good luck to him.

To explore another perspective.....

To me, he's a really good example of what a difference it makes if you can get x number of games under your belt for a premier league club as a young player, by hook or by crook.

Without ever looking like anything more than an average but hard working utility man, he's clocked up 60 appearances for us. That, in turn, has given him a profile leading to this move. Perhaps if he was playing in League 2 he'd have been spotted and signed by Stoke, but somehow I doubt it.

I know you don't get 60 games for Palace if you're no good at all, but I feel like there must have been a good few players who came through our development system (i.e. academy graduates or cheap, young hopeful signings) who had more talent than Devenny but weren't the right sort of player in the right place at the right time, and so didn't get the same run in the side. A lot of them are probably not even professional footballers now.

I can't believe anyone at Palace ever thought Devenny would develop into a star, or even a particularly good premier league player. Her just came in handy for a bit. That simple set of circumstances will probably end up giving him a career he just wouldn't have had otherwise.

By the time his Stoke contract finishes, he'll be in his mid 20s and, injury aside, will probably have two hundred games under his belt overall. He's an established professional footballer. He's in.

I recognise that he took his chance with both hands and deserves it all, but to me he shows that favourable circumstances can still be transformative in football.

To be honest we don’t have too many stars in our team and Devenny is a decent footballer. I think he suffered from being able to play in several positions and was used as a utility player without commanding any particular position. He is still young and I wish him well and hope he thrives and goes on to greater things. Who knows, one day we may regret selling him.
 
I think he's gone somewhat under the radar for many Championship clubs but I think Stoke have made a wise purchase here.

Devenny, in my estimation has good fundamentals as a midfielder and doesn't make many mistakes. He doesn't stand out enough to get regular Premiership play at this point in his career for a mid table Premiership side but he isn't far off.

At this age he needs to be playing regularly and I think his ability makes him one of the better all round midfielders in the Championship. That ability will likely see him playing back in the Premiership at some point.
