Jpm

Not aimed at you DE but just in general; do the other players consider transfer fees paid when comparing their wages? Football money is all silly but if we pay JPM another £40,000 a week it's £6 m in 3 years. Can we replace him with whatever his transfer fee brings in + £6 m?
It's always possible we could find someone as good or better for an affordable fee but what wages will he want and if he is a success how long can we keep him?
Mateta is a known entity and can be effective for Palace so I think we should pay what he wants within reason.
Teddy - I want to say that the agent should lay it out for the player explaining why something is or isnt realistic, but as commented below, its clear that the Agent has a vested interest in an unsettled player & getting him a good outcome of either him getting a pay rise or a move down the road.

I think that's the difference between a good agent and a bad one. Not all are bad.

A good agent will realise that his reputation is also on the line and that clubs will avoid him and his players if he jerks them around. A short sighted one will not care but same applies to players.

If I was a player I would not want an agent causing trouble on my behalf because it may backfire on me.

So a good agent should ask for a salary that is reasonable for that player.

Indeed. And being cynical it makes you wonder if some transfers aren't manufactured by the agents just to increase their income and similarly if some clubs don't occasionally buy lower level players to keep the agents happy and increase the possibility of dealing with them over bigger deals, both for transfers and contracts.
As I say, that might be overly cynical but with some deals it's hard to see either the football or business logic behind them and with the sheer amounts of money being shovelled around it seems possible.

I dont think this is cynical at all TE. Highly likely. With the massive commission the agents are on even after FIFA new limits, makes you wonder how much is shared (and contributed to by the players wages). All very dark.
