Jørgen Strand Larsen

I do agree the valuation is far to high but what do you do I say at least the board are showing ambition he could turn out a very good striker especially
If we win the euro cup and end up playing in Europe next season .🦅

The only thing I can think of is that the financial reset for expenditure occurs at year end as opposed to season end, but someone with serious knowledge of our accounts needs to confirm this, otherwise there is no reason for us not to have spent at the start of the season.

Of course the ridiculous thought that occurred to me is that Parish is spending loads now just to piss Glasner off. Surely not😂
Perhaps Paddy is being lined up to replace Ollie and he’s getting the players that he likes.

Yes, I said that Palace are constrained by the current rules. Those rules will be replaced next season by stricter ones that will make it even harder for clubs like Palace to be competitive. So you could argue that this is the best time to get such a deal done. I then said in my reply to you that I'm certain that Parish will be all over the financial implications. That would include any possible sale of Mateta. I think Parish is better placed than you or I to know what funds the club can expect to bring in. If any.

Nketiah was three transfer windows ago, August 24. I seriously doubt if we are going to sign Uche permanently given we hardly play him now and we're bringing in Guessand. And neither you or I know the projected fee if Guessand signs in the summer. Villa paid c£26m plus add-ons which I doubt have kicked in.

No transfer is risk free. There are no guarantees that they will work out.

Why didn't we strengthen more in the summer ? Frustrating though it is, we didn't get the Eze money until the last knockings of that window. We now have some or all in play plus the £20m from Guehi. It does make you wonder if we had done this business then if Glasner would have stayed.
As you have said, it's only really Parish that knows what can and can't be spent. We can try and piece it together from the outside, but even if we had detailed enough figures to do all the various sums, we don't know the other details, which is just as important.

Those details might include sales occurring that we guessed might come up, but didn't welcome and couldn't fully rely on (both Olise and Eze had release clauses, I believe). In such cases, perhaps palace can't buy a replacement in advance, just in case the sales fall through?

It would have been best to rebuild the squad in the early summer, if course. Then they can get organised, settled, and the players can become familiar. It doesn't work like that, though.

This season he has scored 6 goals and 2 assists in the on pitch equivalent of 17 matches (all competitions). Last season he scored 14/5 in 31 matches equivalent and in La Liga 13/3 in 32 matches. There is a goal scorer hidden in there who also can create opportunities similar to Gyokeres up the Arsenal. Given our big “mistake” with Sorloth I wouldn’t write him off.
Like the positivity there mate, but out of his 6 goals & 2 assists this season, half of them were against a Shrewsbury team who gave an 18 year old keeper his debut and the poor lad had a shocker, including an assist for JSL's 2nd.

Have a watch, key points are;
1.16 (Trying to keep positive like you, that is a decent flick to finish, albeit rather common at that level, esp against poor opposition)
4.13 (JSL's missed tap in against a poor quality defender)
5.20 (JSL's 2nd, a late xmas gift by the keeper and most of us on this site couldve finished it)

I cant help but think it shouldve been Mateus Mane instead of JSL, now he is worth £45m, even at 17 years old. He was "rested" for the game as been keeping JSL out the side since breaking into Wolves' first team under Rob Edwards.

8.45 (Reason why Mane is leaving Wolves for City/Liverpool at the end of the season for £50m apparently. Such quick feet and superb vision. My Wolves Brother-in-Law said Mane is the real deal, even at 17/18 years old)
10.45 (Ronaldo and Messi did things like that at Mane's age)

So, in 19 Premier League games this season, JSL has ONE goal (a penalty) and ONE assist, which was only last week v Everton. In fact he has missed more pens this season than he has scored goals. His most recent being a shocker, below.

His other two goals this season came in the 2nd Round of the Carabao Cup.

In fact, the last time JSL scored in open play was back in MAY 2025!!!!.....against none other than US at Selhurst!! A good omen? I certainly hope so pal, but based on the above, I just cannot get the slightest bit excited about us smashing our transfer record by paying £45m up front with a further £5m in add ons for a bang average (at best) centre forward.

God I hope not. I think as a club we've moved on a bit from taking a throw of the dice with a complete novice. It worked for Brentford sure but lets be honest. No one thought it was going to.

The rules in European competitions are even tougher and that was one of our constraints this year. Plus the demotion to conference hit our projected income. In addition repayment of loans to Textor meant that last summer we needed to sell before we could buy. Geuhi didn't go to Liverpool as we all thought so when offer for Eze can in (and he wanted to do) it was accepted. I think he did have a release clause but I think as Arsenal didn't want to pay up front a structured deal was done at a slightly higher price.
I am very sceptical about Larsen price but if he can be brought in for about same price as Mateta leaves for , it is not a terrible deal, he is younger, more athletic and seems to want to come.
Uche is a strange situation, we pulled out from buying and it became a conditional loan. He doesn't look bad, in fact he looks better than Mateta when he joined us. I think we will buy him in summer but try and drop price by not meeting the conditions of loan deal similar to Ayew a few years ago.

Consider this: this will still come down to the wire and be dependent on Mateta leaving? It's agreed perhaps but not signed off on, yet.

So,

is it finalised yet?
I heard Forest are trying to dick Palace around with below valuation offers thinking we are desperate to sell JPM now that JSL is coming in. We have apparently turned down 2 offers from Forest already.
Palace said to be aware of how many clubs are interested in JPM, all of them bigger than Forest so they are comfortable keeping both until the summer and selling him then. Unless Forest pay what Palace want.
The only risk with that is if JPM's form does not improve interest in him will drop off a cliff

What has changed do you think between the end of last season and very little expenditure and the sale of Guehi for £20m followed by expenditure of £35m for Johnson, £45/£50m for Larsen and then potentially £20m for Uche, £30m for Guessand plus an unknown amount for a a badly needed centre half and a back up right wing back.

I just don’t understand how one month we don’t or can’t spend then all of a sudden we can splash loads. No one has given a satisfactory answer, not that I expect them to particularly unless they are totally au fait with our accounts and PL accounting periods.

This was exactly the point I was making earlier and why I’m concerned about doing the Larsen deal without linking the Mateta deal.

A different perspective, just to add to discussion and provide a bit of positivity.

How enamoured do you think Trabzonspor (and for that matter Villareal) fans were when they found out they were signing Sorloth? Granted Trabzonspor was a loan not a major outlay in cash, but that was a striker who had looked two bob up to that point. But then started knocking them in once in a new team and new environment.

Strand Larsen has a scoring record overall of 1 in 3 for Wolves. Not stellar, and like others I am underwhelmed by the idea of signing him. But if he can chip in with 10 goals a season and others can weigh in that is not the worst replacement for JPM.

Thought I'd give a few thoughts on JSL.
Although we officially signed him last Summer in reality it was the Summer before with a pre agreed fee and an obligation based on a low number of appearances, so it's not really fair to say we've doubled our money in 6 months for a player that's not scored a none penalty PL goal even though it's technically true.

I've seen some talk about him being a lump, he isn't. His hold up play is weak, if you put him one on one against a traditional centre half he gets bullied. He's fairly quick for his size, so you can play balls through to him and does well to get on the end of crosses. I wouldn't describe him as a finisher though, he's not clinical enough for that title. Probably should have had another 4 or 5 last season than he ended up with, but got into good positions to be there in the first place.

As for this season, obviously we've been a car crash, but don't get drawn to thinking his form is just a result of this. His attitude after not getting his move to Newcastle has been a disgrace, barely trying in numerous games, leading to the fans turning on him and getting dropped much later than he deserved.

If he can be arsed and presumably he will at a new club, you'd have a decent PL centre forward if it goes through. £45m is a bit toppy though, but we'll only receive about his worth once the leach Mendes has had his usual drink.

Thanks for this, it’s nice to have an honest verdict from someone who’s seen him week in week out.
It smacks of desperation from us, but hopefully he’ll hit the ground running and get an early goal or two so any rot or bad attitude doesn’t set in
