Jørgen Strand Larsen

It’s loads of money but that’s the market. As somebody else has said it we get him for £45m and ship JPM for £35m that’s a net transfer spend of £10m which looks like a fair deal for a more consistent and younger player.

All those saying we could get almost anyone for £50m are unfortunately wide of the mark. Arsenal spent £60m on a non scoring striker and Man Utd spent more on Sesko. Nketiah, who has a very average record cost us £30m.

Agree - it's also about who we can actually recruit and attract mid-season. Most clubs are not going to entertain selling a starting striker on the 29th January.

We certainly need a big target man but £50m is a lot to pay. I just hope he is worth it.
Larsen is tall but not big. He is the same height as Haaland but 7kg lighter. Bernardo Silva was tossing him around at corners last game. He ended up on his arse in the net at least once

Yeah, but as I said in another post on here, Mateta is carrying a knee injury. Unless the medical team at the buying club at this precise moment are mad, incompetent, foolish or is in Division 10 of the Outer Mongolian league, why would they touch him with a barge pole?
Not unlikely that the BFG has told the medical team at Forest to find an 'injury' and reject the transfer meaning no-one else is likely step in and we'll have an even unhappier JPM on our hands

Oh come on now - whether you agree with the signing or not it’s a cert that Steve Parish knows his way around these financials.

Selling someone without having replacement and he gets it in the neck and now he’s trying to be pro active to ensure he gets the player and still people moan
Hold on, weren’t you one of the posters that has previously said we can’t go spending large sums of money because of the rules and now you are supporting a £50m expenditure on a forward when we don’t know what the future receipt on Mateta is going to be.

With Nketiah £30m, Canvot £19m, Johnson £35m and Larsen £45m, future expenditure possibly of Uche £20m and Guessand £30m plus no centre half replacement to date how are we meeting the buying criteria when we were sailing so close to the wind previously.

If Parish’s transfer abilities match his pre season organisation when it comes to our European football involvement then no, I don’t have the greatest of faith in him to get it spot on.

Expenditure now also begs the question why we didn’t strengthen the squad when we really needed to at the start of the season.

I’m also certain that this and the Mateta deal will have been agreed alongside each other - don’t think there’s any way we make this kind of outlay without a sale first.

I’m not sure we’ve ever been sailing particularly close to the wind in regard to financial regulations.

Our wage percentage was well above the current allowance previously. And I believe that the allowance is being reduced. Our wage bill was crippling us but we did get it down.

I doubt I’ll be able to find it but there are numerous posts on this site discussing exactly that and saying that according to our books we were right on the limit. Obviously there are expenditure resets based on time, but would that happen halfway through a season?

If Mateta, wants to go and Palace get £35/40 million for him then Strand Larsen, at £45 plus 5 million has to be a decent deal. As Mateta is already 29 it wouldn’t have been to long before a good level younger alternative would be needed anyway. As Strand Larsen is three or four years younger than JP and proven in the Prem the actual financial outlay of £10/15 million is very reasonable .

I find your last sentence highly pertinent.
We are now out of 2 of the 4 competitions we entered and are largely out of the 3 games per week of the season phase.
If ever there was a time to strengthen the squad surely it was back in August.

We also have the uncertainty of who the new manager is, whether they suit his system and whether the players we are buying at significant cost are to his taste.

All this is making my head hurt.
Are we turning into Manchester City or Arsenal having £20 million plus players on the bench?

The only thing I can think of is that the financial reset for expenditure occurs at year end as opposed to season end, but someone with serious knowledge of our accounts needs to confirm this, otherwise there is no reason for us not to have spent at the start of the season.

Of course the ridiculous thought that occurred to me is that Parish is spending loads now just to piss Glasner off. Surely not😂

Yes, I said that Palace are constrained by the current rules. Those rules will be replaced next season by stricter ones that will make it even harder for clubs like Palace to be competitive. So you could argue that this is the best time to get such a deal done. I then said in my reply to you that I'm certain that Parish will be all over the financial implications. That would include any possible sale of Mateta. I think Parish is better placed than you or I to know what funds the club can expect to bring in. If any.

Nketiah was three transfer windows ago, August 24. I seriously doubt if we are going to sign Uche permanently given we hardly play him now and we're bringing in Guessand. And neither you or I know the projected fee if Guessand signs in the summer. Villa paid c£26m plus add-ons which I doubt have kicked in.

No transfer is risk free. There are no guarantees that they will work out.

Why didn't we strengthen more in the summer ? Frustrating though it is, we didn't get the Eze money until the last knockings of that window. We now have some or all in play plus the £20m from Guehi. It does make you wonder if we had done this business then if Glasner would have stayed.
