Johnson, McNeil

Who was our last record signing to prove his worth? Was Guehi our record signing at the time?
We have broken our record signing-on fee 10 times in the Premier League (Chelsea have done it 23 times) starting with Bruce Dyer in 1994. McArthur for 7m was probably the best deal with, maybe, Cabaye 10m next. I'll let you guys guess the rest
The sales have been better, the last five being Eze, Olise(forced price), Wan-Bissaka, Bolasie and Gayle

Last season I watched McNeil live at an Everton home match (from great hospitality lounge guest of a ST holding colleague) and he was one of their most creative and clapped players for 65 minutes. I remember thinking at the time we could really do with that sort of player in our squad as we were run ragged by December .

I seem to recall him getting PotM (not against us) after he put in 2 Pirlo level passes through a packed defence.

It is in his locker.

From an Everton season ticket holder on McNeil

"Decent player, was our most effective attacking force one season, though some fans forgot that and got on his back later, idiots"

I can’t believe that we have paid £35M for Johnson. Transfer deals are always phased and on most occasions additional payments depend upon number of appearances etc. Who knows…it may be that Everton have agreed to meet the top ups if he makes the appearances for them. McNeil evidently only has one year left on his contract so for this supposed swap to happen he would need to sign an extension.
Sadly Brennan hasn’t imposed himself in any way for us and there is no sign of him doing so, McNeil would perhaps give us an option to change a game and wants to join us.
I can’t believe the club would have had its pants pulled down completely. The only time that has happened recently was with O’Brian and there is definitely more to that than meets the eye.

You may want to take on the fact that Spurs fans are an entitled bunch of clowns, some not all, who no doubt fawned all over Johnson when he was their leading goal scorer and if memory serves he got the winner in the UEFA Cup final.
Didn't hear many pissing and whining about him at that time did we or am I the one pissing in the wind here?
Simply said I've always believed it takes a player a season to get used to new surroundings, team mates, playing styles etc. He now has a new coach to get used to and in my opinion will come good.
I've watched him fairly closely since he played on loan at Lincoln City onto Forest onto Spurs and he's is and will again be a damn good player whom I hope we keep.
Hes s*** mate

My real point is that reading a selling club’s fans forums gives you an idea on how a player is performing and whether he’s any good. Maybe if we’d have looked at what the Spurs fans thought of Johnson we wouldn’t be in this mess. And as I’ve pointed out the Everton fans can’t stand McNeil. I really hope he comes good but have serious doubts.
People did and called it out from the off what are you on about?

how on earth is that OG's fault? He rightly lamented our lack of signings/squad depth and I doubt he left that until the last minute. The people responsible for signings then go and sign a dud. Responsibility lays with the recruitment team who identify targets and get them in the door.
Are u having a laugh. He pushed for this dross otherwise he would have said no get me someone else

Bruce dyer was bought from watford on 10th march '94 when we were in division 1 (championship).

If this is the only way to get rid of someone whose performance never justified his reputation, transfer fee or his salary then so be it. McNeil will at least have a desire to do well and I hope he does.

If we can also devise a method of moving Strand Larsen on I would be all in favour.

The saga of these two expensive imports reflects very badly on our last manager and the idiot who bought them.
Hear hear.

In the nicest possible way, i hope we never find out. So far he has been an absolute write off for us. If he stays and starts banging them in for us then your views should be hailed. Personally, I hope the press are right and we are by now crossing the 't's and dotting the 'i's. I expect to see pictures of McNeill in our new shirt by wednesday.

Johnson has been one of the most speculator wastes of money in the club's history. Even if O'Neil has a similar unproven track record, based on BJ's horrendously poor performances last season, gaining a new player in return for getting rid of this dud, has to be seen as a positive. Otherwise we could have just written off the 35mil.

I can't understand how such as poor player as amassed 45 international caps, even for a 2nd rate national team like Wales.
Talking of BJs i had a poor enough season myself f***ing menopause 🙁

Try the Cashel Palace mate. Cool name too 😉 you're in that area aren't you?

I mean bring the missus there - before anyone makes assumptions.
