McNeil played infrequently in a modest Everton side last year, didn't make or score a single goal. He's shown flashes of ability over the years but never put it all together. Perhaps there's a player in there, but if so then he's been hiding from view for quite some time.

The only thing that makes this deal a good idea is getting shot of Johnson. It's damage limitation.
