Jessy Derry

It’s his right not to sign a contract. So release him now and make a space for someone else. Simple.
Absolutely. I get the impression Derry thinks he's better than he is (or perhaps someone else in the family keeps telling him he's brilliant and should be playing proper men's football).

He could well turn into another Bostock - probably more chance of that than a Michael Owen.

True but neither should we offer him the keys to the kingdom. Bostock was rated higher at his age.

We offer him a fair deal if he sees his career is being better at Chelsea or Moan United let him go. I cannot understand why any youngster would feel they have a better chance of breaking through at those clubs rather than palace.

Now if he dropped down a level, say he signed for Charlton that would make sense, he would get game time and a real chance to build his career before getting the big money move, I doubt that will happen though as they cannot afford his wages.

100%.

You assume that as part of signing a pro contract, a big part of it will be walking through the progression plan e.g. getting him out on loan etc.

Don’t really understand the dislike he is getting on here. As somebody else said we will cut the vast majority of players coming through our youth set up. It’s pretty brutal from clubs (including ours) to aspiring players. Given that I can hardly blame a young player taking what he perceives the best option for him.

We don't dislike him per se. But if he's leaving then it's not our business to develop him further. Frankly, whoever has tapped him up can train him now. I presume Man U but the other would be Chelsea. I'm interested in seeing who it is. Has Shaun got a new car?

Man City, I reckon.

If I'm not mistaken though, any club he does go to we should be entitled to a compensation package as we developed him, so... 🤷

We've consistently demonstrated our trust in young players. Some progressing from the ranks, some bought in elsewhere.

But the universal truth is that if you are good enough you are old enough.

If he thinks somewhere else will give him a better chance, good luck to him.
This is the reality

Given the timing of this coming to the fore, perhaps this is a case of someone realising that the winter transfer window coming to a close, didn't get the loan they felt they deserved, had a chat with the people in charge of player development, didn't get the warm fuzzy feeling that they hoped for & wanted to make a statement / be at the front of the queue for whatever comes next.

Given that he is an U18 on the periphery of the U21 its not unlikely that player development told him to work on cementing his place in the U21 to become a starter / regular fixture in that set up instead of an off the bench player & he felt he was entitled to a better offer.

It will be interesting to see what comes next for him.

Being palace its annoying as it's the future financial loss that's the main concern not if he's good enough as if he's a success either as an academy or a purchase from lower leagues will be sold on as is usual scenario (Mitchell currently an exception) be great to be a club that could keep our quality players but feel that this summer could see 4/5 departures but 200 million in bank and 2027 in championship
