It is clear this boy has so much potential and the talent he is showing at U18 and U21 level is insane. My question is, why is he not getting a chance in the first team? I've heard there might be problems with his professional contract with the club. Surely we have to do everything we can so that we sign this kid up to a long term contract just like Rak-Sakyi. Otherwise we might be missing out on the next wonderkid of the world. What's people's take on this.

What a bit like John Bostock and Tom Soares?

Keep taking the pills 🤣

There is little doubt as to his potential, however we have a first team squad and he would have been tested against these players in training sessions. If he were ripping up trees against Premiership quality defences then the club would already know it from these sessions.

He seems to be very ambitious and perhaps he is refusing to sign a contract.

No doubt we want him to sign but ultimately it's the player and their advisers who decide.

Maybe its a simple case of not wanting to throw him into the action during a period when the 1st team is so unsettled already with injuries & suspensions - Certainly the Devenney introduction has worked well so far, but how many U21 can we risk introducing into the PL match day squad at the same time -

As you'd expect for a kid his age he still makes quite a few mistakes and looks a bit lightweight. If he's serious about playing for us and he's good enough he'll get his chance. When I've seen the U21s I would say Zach Marsh looks closer to being first-team ready, but I wouldn't say he is that close either.

Man Utd keep on tapping up our coaches and players. He's probably been spoken to by them. See what his dad drives.

Surely we made his dad rich enough already!.....Proper Palace bloke as well.

Hopefully he's telling him to sign.....Aside from what's best for Palace, I think it's the most sensible thing the player could do at this stage anyway.

I agree it would be sensible but Shaun has been up and down with Palace. And if Man Utd come calling - well I believe it's happened a couple of times already.
Obviously we're much better than Utd but some people just can't see that.
This was the most recent but there was at least one other before. They also signed one of our youth coaches and set up a scouting base in South London.

If only by the virtue of not being northerners.

They still live in caves up there.

Not the main topic of this thread, but my memory of Soares is of a midfielder or winger who played well for us for several seasons, chipping in a few goals.

Yep, I always had the impression that he was below par for the Premiership but still....in academy terms a success as he had a career in professional football whereas most don't. In his prime I'd say he was a good championship player....probably played a little better for us as he was one of our own.

At first I felt quite offended at the idea of them setting up camp on our turf but then I thought why not? It's where the majority of their fanbase is from.
