It would seem like a good signing for Palace; we already know the player as does Sage who managed him at Lyons. Failing to get a starting berth at Everton ahead of Tarkowski and Branthwaite is hardly a disgrace and the frequency with which Moyes plays him out of position speaks for his quality.

We will need two centre backs in the summer when the loans from Chelsea finish. In the interim since he was on our academy books he can presumably fill one of thee empty 'home grown' slots in the Europa League squad; in an ideal world we could find Lerma the move he very reasonably wants and has tbh deserved from us; a central defender who can cover midfield would be a much better fit than a midfielder who can cover central defence - as Lerma's frustrations have shown. He can't be accused of 'not wanting to play for us' after his shift at Elland Road but he can't be blamed for wanting a regular midfield starting berth which his international career really needs and O'Brien would be an excellent replacement in the short term and a decent prospect at centre back going forward.
