Nobody stopped India or Pakistan getting nuclears, or even North Korea. Perhaps significant more danger to Iran comes from their close ties to renegade terrorist groups. Everyone is trying to outguess the other countries.
And in that context, I can see the USA using Israel as it's proxy. It lessens to risk to the USA main land.

Lets hope sense will prevail.

The US tried to stop India, Pakistan and North Korea by imposing sanctions but it failed. Allowing Iran to get weapons will start a nuclear arms race with Suadi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey.

Iran funds terrorist groups Hezbollah, Hamas and other militias in the region. A nuclear armed Iran would embolden them.

It's not about the USA mainland as Iran could attack US bases in the region or its allies, also disrupt oil supply.
