I am trying to block out the negatives for the season ahead, but the alarm bells are ringing ever louder.
Poor Pierre, what a start.

Mateta and Sarr are perhaps toxic behind the scenes, critical to our attack but are they going to cause more problems than they are worth? It’s the positive culture built up prior our promotion season that has carried the club until now. We need a lot of leaders to pull us out of this mess. Seems we are now victims of our recent success.
Starting the season without Joel ward types. No Dougie freedman to find the right characters, no Guehi, Lacroix, clyne, the hf disbanding, Munoz off, new signings so far that need time to adjust.
It doesn’t look good, if Pierre pulls it all together he would have done a fantastic job
 
Mateta and Sarr. Im surprised the new manager hasn't been able to convince them to stay weeks back. I would change the transfer rules to max three in and three out each season. These merry go rounds of players is losing all the teamwork and spirit of the game. I can't keep up with it all. I am not a fan of this mass change thing at all.

The thing is with Mateta at least, everyone knows he wants to leave, but unless a lot has happened out of the press, there haven't been bids flying in for him. Doesn't sound like any.

SO he can get arsey about leaving all he wants, but doesnt sound like anyone wants him.

It must be quite a blow to the ego to announce your availability and the football world just shrugs.
 
Just looked back at Mileend’s initial post that started this thread last year.

Wonder what happened to him? How naive we fans are. We assume the players love our club as we do when in reality it’s all about earning money and furthering their careers.
 
Unfortunately for JP (and us) his finishing has been woeful for a year. He's not just missing chances, he's missing sitters. Despite that, he probably still offers more than JLS has so far. Is that enough to convince Juve, Milan or another big club to pay £25 million plus give him a 3+ year contract on £100k+ a week? That's a big commitment for a player who has also been having injury issues.

On the plus side, if he sticks around, I don't think he'll sulk and, once he's fit again, will probably carry on where he left off...missing goals from six yards out.

It's exactly going to be that. Even if we got him, can't exactly guarantee that Spanish football translates to the premier League. Wasn't Pino a bit of a star? I think that says enough.

The irritating thing about Mateta is he wants his cake and to eat it. He has a contract at Palace and is adhering to it and collecting his wages while at the same time demanding the club release him on a free. So he not only gets his 'big move' but also gets massive wages into the bargain. I'd be happy to let him go but only if we can source a replacement.
Sarr is in my opinion too important to let go. I read earlier players should make their intentions clear earlier in the window. This is naive because they probably did. Problem is when Liverpool suddenly start taking an interest they conveniently change their mind! Players are selfish and will always look out for no.1. Thats a given.
I think maybe someone should sit down with Sarr and his representatives and make things clear. He is under contract. A contract he was happy to sign at the time. We dont have time to find a quality replacement with a bit over 24 hours till the window closes. If he still wants to leave in January and someone meets our valuation and the deal is done early in the window so we can find someone else then we'll look at it then. But in this window? Sorry but you're going nowhere so lets knuckle down.
 
You would think Liverpool would have learned their lesson in dealing with Palace from the collapse of the Guehi deal. They left it so lat in the day to put a concrete offer in. Thinking Parish would bite their arm off because Marc's contract was running out. It nearly worked too but when Glasner/Parish discussed the impact losing Marc without a replacement would have on the team Parish pulled the plug.
I cannot see Parish sanctioning any move for Sarr with the window closing tomorrow. Not unless he has done some secret deal we dont know about for some quality goal scoring midfielder thats about to fly into London and sign? Cant see it.
 
This window has been incredibly disruptive, once it shuts the players will be focused. As for Sarr and Mateta if they are still with us you watch their attitudes change because if they are not playing they will be forgotten about, end of!

Sarr played up at Marseille and has got form for it I’m sure he was made to train on his own before we picked him up, these players have very short memories.
 
Make him stay. He needs some correction therapy to realise he is already at the best club in the world. Does he have the same agent as JP? C'mon Sarr help us lift the Europa Cup, you'll get Champions League next season as a reward.

We can all then sing "When Sarr when up to lift the Europa Cup"
