Iran

No need to get offensive sunshine. I've had more patriotism in my little finger than you had in the past, just because it isn't there any longer doesn't mean you can open your trap and gob off. Well you can of course, but is it advisable? I'm not so sure these days. Someone less mannered might take offence. I'm not sure I've ever licked anyones arse tbh. You might believing that advancing thousands of miles eastwards from Berlin changing regimes on the way somehow doesn't constitute aggression, but that's certainly not how most of the world outside the West sees it.

Anyway, back to Iran and this one. Try to stick on the subject if you are able to. I know the BBC drip drip makes it hard for you to think critically.

You have me wrong. I reported this "news" many hours before the BBC did, and also the Ayatollah death which is now reported, cos I have a contact. I can't stand the BBC, And I get your points on NATO, they aren't new, but those countries have the right to that determination especially as they were under the commie boot for decades before and don't want it again. I don't blame them. Look at Georgia, Chechnya, Belarus and now Ukraine

The contingency command structure in Iran is obviously still operational, to some extent.
I could be wrong, but it doesn't look like Iran has the weaponry, or the targets to point them at, to keep this going much beyond a few weeks.
There must be agitators in place for many months , trying to organise a rebel Government, that will emerge once the bombing has subsided.
This situation is highlighting the new world order. We just thought it was Russia and China out to grab satellite states.
Now we have the USA openly plundering oil,..errrr bringing democracy to the Middle East.
In the old days the UN Council would have convened an emergency meeting to facilitate a co-ordinated reaction by member states. This is all new ground, so it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
And the insider information is much appreciated. I have a deep distrust of anything the media puts out.

If the country is prevented from falling into civil war then the drop in threat to Israel and the west, the civil liberty improvement to Iran, and stability for the region will be worth the oil, they deserve it.

Have you ever heard of anything that goes to plan? Russia's three day war with Ukraine, Trump's peace in a day and Thatcher's rather strident promise (1989): Thatcher expressed confidence that privatised water would be a "better deal" and a success, or Chamberlain's “Peace for Our Time” Speech. I'm bored and fed up with unfulfillable promises and statements by people who quite frankly should know better.

I served at Akrotiri during the war with Iraq. The yanks basically turned it into a forward operating base for them. They lengthened the runway for their bombers, built tented villages, basically took over the place as is their way. Iran is a much more powerful beast than Iraq. 100% the Cyprus bases will be a target, and I could definitely see the game moving if it all escalates as looks likely. Just my opinion though based on experience of before though.

I truly despair sometimes. Venezuela and Iran are the latest victims of the US and Israel. The US just want the usual regime change to control the oil but Israel want total devastation of Iran. Just my opinion but if Starmer backs these c***s up we deserve everything that will be come at us in the future. Surely just once we can climb out of their arse and have a neutral stance. Iran has never done anything to us.

Excuse my ignorance here, but if 1000 miles separate Cyprus from Iran, going over Turkey I guess. How real is the threat to Cyprus?

I think a lot depends on the next few days. If Israel continues to attack repeatedly then surely they must be Irans major focus for retaliation you would think? I think Iran has already struck at the nearest US bases in Bahrain though, so I doubt the US will get away with this scot free. Would they not go over Iraq and Syria, rather than Turkey though. From Western Iran it's really not that far to Cyprus, and that is where most of their bases are/were. And here is a picture.Screenshot_2026-03-01-12-52-20-45_40deb401b9ffe8e1df2f1cc5ba480b12.webp

the London 7/7 bombers didnt need any fancy missile guidance system.

Islamic Cyprus is only a football kick away from Greek Cyprus. And everybody remembers that Cyprus was once a Christian Crusader Kingdom.

OK thanks, used to stay down the road at Cullen when I worked in Aberdeen by the way.

Understood Bahrain but was struggling with the Cyprus threat.

what is the financial value of a military-base's hardware ? compared to an Ocean of Oil ? Pearl Harbor got rebuilt after WWII.

1066 probably cost William the Conqueror a few dead horses. Was it worth it ?
