We did. We left on no deal, an incredibly dumb thing to do pushed forward by idiot flag shaggers.

A very disappointing turn of phrase.

Tell me Spindle, you are heavily in favour of Israel in Gaza, are all these Israelis you align with 'idiot flag shaggers' too?

So sorry for loving what I am.

It's true that the major parties lied to the British people about joining the Common Market and then co-operated with the rest of the countries to create the EU. However the public were never asked they just did it.

Many years after he retired Ted heath admitted that the plan was to create a political union and that the Common Market was just the first stage of this. People like Tony Benn pointed this out in 1973 and it was denied by the pro lobby.

But that cooperation made us wealthy. You'd rather we were given the opportunity to refuse prosperity?

Tony Benn was an extremist on the other side of the same coin as Farage. I find it most odd that Benn is upheld by those who despise Corbyn, yet their economic politics are the same.

Not all situations are the same, your analogy is rubbish as you are well aware.

Patriotism for the betterment of our country is one thing, but this patriotism is perverted by those who seek personal gain at the expense of others and have weaponised it.

Well, then I would put the rather obvious distinction to you that the interests of the EU (Germany/France) and the interests of the UK are not the exact same thing...especially as being an island nation provides easier trade opportunities over the landlocked, and that those whom you refer to as 'flag shaggers' (a distinctly far left term) are far more aligned with this country than a collective.

Using that term and then suggesting that patriotism is a good thing is cognitive dissonance as every patriot will be a 'flag shagger' to some degree.

Indeed, those who regard our flag with contempt or indifference are far more a problem.

Benn's main problem with the EU was that he considered it undemocratic - in that, he was entirely correct. Others such as Dennis Skinner share that view - so does Corbyn, but these days will not openly say it. Even David Owen has come round to the same view. It's my main problem with the EU too. I want the opportunity every few years to vote out those that make the laws that govern me.

I know that you find this hard to accept but you already have what you are asking for!

How do you think we ended up with Brexit if we don’t?

God, how old is David Owen now? He was old when I was young.

Anyone who knows how the EU is set up knows it is undemocratic by its very infrastructure. Its policy makers are essentially 'put ins' from its governments/banks and none of them can be removed by the public and the claim that what the commissionaires want can be controlled is in practice just b0llocks.

The best you can do is fiddle around the edges of policy and most of the time you won't even get that.

Cameron found that out.

Expecting a proud nation with our history to be second string to Germany (the Euro being essentially the Mark).....where the Germans are essentially the EU's hegemon was always a tough ask.

Thatcher had the right perspective towards the EU.....As a trading block that didn't interfere with how your country was run, it was a positive......But as Badger said, the plans underfoot were always meant to head towards where we are now.

The problem was that the pro crowd were far too dishonest and ambitious and now the populist right are thankfully resurgent all over Europe.

An EU was never the problem, the argument was always the form and the lack of sovereign power afforded within the EU...immigration for example, makes it untenable.

Sorry, not buying the immigration argument at all. We CHOSE to allow in EU workers, the rest are the result of non EU economics and war, all countries are affected but they want to come here because of our ridiculous domestic fairness and our language and world reputation. That just isn't the EUs fault.

We now have more non EU migrants than ever but have LOST our ability to live and work in the EU. It makes me sick that I am now unable to stay longer than 90 in 180 days in the bloc, it has f***ed my retirement plans.

Has anyone been able to give me a benefit of this shitty decision to leave? Or are you all still blaming remainders?

A conflict between your retirement plans and my duty free fags from European trips? As much as I wish you a long and happy retirement I'll take the smokes thanks.

At least you are honest.

The arguments for have been given many times, it's hard to believe you haven't come up against them.

This is the attitude of our so called patriots, they couldn't give a s*** about their fellow citizens, meanwhile the megarich benefitters of brexshit can go wherever they like still.

That is why they can be called flagshaggers.

The biggest plus is the removal of a huge layer of government from our lives.

MEPs can't undermine anything - they have no real power.

This is why we're f***ed up. The ignorance is outstanding, you've actually believed the lies Farages mob have blurted out.

.
Members of the European Parliament, vote on laws. They debate, amend, and ultimately pass legislation proposed by the European Commission. This process often involves negotiation and collaboration with the Council of the European Union.

The fact that Farages mob deliberately didn't turn up (he was fisheries minister and his attendance record was worse than a delinquent schoolboy) didn't stop him from telling fishermen how great leaving the EU would be.

Personally I'd have it so MEPs are not individually elected, so they are appointed as a reflection of the current domestic government. This would represent our country better.

They vote on the rules put before them.

In that case it would be cheaper for the taxpayer to abolish the European Parliament who needs another House of Lords.

The reason the EU has a parliament is to provide a fig leaf to the voters that there is a democratic process. The reality is that it is a rubber stamp body and that the real power lies with the decisions of the EU Commissioners and the joint decisions of the member states.

If elected representatives can't proposal and frame laws, or in financial and foreign policy laws, not even vote on them, then it is not democratic. Those that do make the laws are appointed, not elected, so I guess you are happy with - I'm certainly not.
