I can't think who we'd need the black kit for? Bradford City? Shrewsbury Town? I don't think Partick Thistle are in the Conference League, they're definitely not in the Europa?

Maybe it's not to contrast with other teams but instead a symbol of mourning. If a monarch, motorcycle stunt rider or 1980s TV presenter dies during the season we can rock up in our back kits and everyone will go "what jolly good eggs they are".
