HOL World Cup Fantasy League

Location
Up north
Country
England
With the World Cup about to kick off in North America, I have set up a fantasy league on the FIFA website which anyone here is welcome to join.

Code: GS5C8Q2E

The league is in a classic format with no limit on the number of entrants. It is otherwise very similar to the Fantasy Premier League game we all know and love, with points being scored by the players you select from your squad of 15. All of the rules can be found on the site using the above link.

Entry is FREE of charge, and although there will not be any prize money at stake there is still a world HOL fantasy championship on the line. Well, you can't have too many trophies, can you?

If you are interested in taking part, please also note that your username will be your team name, which must be unique and cannot be changed once it has been entered.

The deadline for entries is 8:00pm BST on Thursday, 11 June.

Hope to see you there!

🙂

Thanks for setting this up. I tried to join but only got a search option to find the league on my phone ? Also the lag was atrocious. If this continues into the tournament it might be a very frustrating experience as you have to log on a lot to make it worthwhile with rotating subs etc.

Hello Booted Eagle, and thanks for your message.

Sorry to hear you’ve had difficulties accessing the game on your phone. I’m afraid I don’t use a smartphone and only use my laptop to play the game online, so it’s difficult for me to offer much help.

From what I can gather, you should be able to play the game by using the official FIFA World Cup 2026 app, or navigating to the site on your mobile browser at play . fifa . com / fantasy. If you have tried both options and still have any technical problems, you can email fta-help@fifa .org for assistance.

I understand there have been problems with the FPL app in the past as well though, so if you have access to a PC or laptop I would recommend using that instead if you can. I’m afraid that’s all I can really suggest.

Hope that's at least of some help, and you are able to get any issues resolved soon. 🙂

FYI

For those who were thinking of running a little football competition in the pub / work this is what I will be doing.

1. I did not want to do a raffle because the person that pulls a minnow will not be happy and there are a lot in this contest. 48 teams and probably only 8 with a chance of winning it so 40 people get screwed.

2. I wanted something simple as I don't have the time to do a fantasy league or something clever that involves keeping 48 people updated on how their team is doing.

My solution (it's not prefect but is simple):

Only 12 people can take part so keeps the overheads for me to a minimum.

Each Person picks a group, not a team, via a raffle e.g. Group A

So every person has 4 teams in the competition with at least a decent chance that one with them is good.

The winner is that person who has the most points from the combined 4 teams. So you don't have to pick the winner of the world cup but you need each of your teams to have a decent run. Don't forget that some groups will have a 3rd qualifier.

Points
In the group stages the points are simply those that each team earn e.g. 3 points for a win 1 for a draw. So I don't have to track individual scores just look at the tables.

Once the knockout stage starts each team earns 3 points if it progresses to the next round.

Money
All that's left is how much you charge and if you are going to have a winner and a runner up.

I've not done this before but the goal was to giver each person a fair chance / interest in the competition. My guess is that the 8 3rd pace qualifiers are likely to come from the weaker groups as each team takes points off each other.

Anyway this is what I am doing.

Thnx for the info. When you set it up did you have to input a name ? If so what was it called as I might be able to join. However it is probably a private league and it looks on my phone/laptop that I only have access to public leagues. When I set up my team I didn't sign up for all the notifications/marketing so I might only have limited access ?

I'm really glad you mentioned about the notifications, I should've done that before.

I didn't sign up for any of the notifications, or give any permissions to 'Saudi Aramco' (?) to use my data. You don't need to. The only tick box I checked was to confirm I'd read the Terms and Conditions, and I'm not even sure I needed to do that.

The name of the league is Holmesdaleship World Cup 2026, but it is a private league so I doubt you'd be able to find it by searching the name. A number of others have been able to join successfully, so I know the code is correct. All I can suggest is to make sure you've entered it correctly.

I don't think it's the most user friendly website, but it doesn't sound like you've done anything wrong or need to do much more than you already have. Have you entered your username, and selected your squad? If so, you should be all ready to go.

Sorry I can't be of more help, and I hope you're able to get it sorted soon!

I put the code into the search league option and yours popped right up.

Put the code given into the search league box.

Today's the day!

Still time left for new entries, with 8:00pm BST being the deadline for the first Gameweek. I will leave the league unlocked though for anyone who would still like to join later on.

Enjoy the tournament, and let's all have a great summer!

Thanks for organising Dan, enjoy.

Managed to get in (eventually). Would of been nice of FIFA to put in an insert code box than just a search facility, lol. Another teething problem this morning was trying to change my captain, it seemed locked but managed to do it in a round about way.

Last Wednesday was going to be the day Thomas Tuchel guided England through. By then, he should've somehow realised what he had to do. I do believe that everybody feels the way we do about him now.

Meanwhile, 14 fantasy managers were busy making positive changes to their squads in an effort to claim the Holmesdaleship World Cup title for 2026. With 48 26-man squads to select from during the tournament, they had more options to choose from than ever before. There were plenty of points to be had with the range of attacking talent on show, but only one team could top the table.

Being an eight-round tournament, it was more of a sprint than a marathon and it was Glas all over who outran the rest of the field with a fantastic 717 points. They scored over 100 points three times, including a 123-point haul in the Round of 32. Averaging nearly 90 points per round, Glas all over were also the only team to reach the 700-point mark. A quite wonderwall performance!

My personal favourite team name in the league though was Mike Bassett Benson and Hedges. Inspired by a film I only got around to watching for the first time last month it’s one I’m sure we can all appreciate.

Thank you very much to everyone who took the time to take part in the league. I hope you enjoyed playing along, and that it enhanced your enjoyment of the World Cup. It was certainly more entertaining than that half-time show anyway, as I’m sure you’ll agree.

Congratulations to the winners of the Holmesdaleship World Cup 2026, Glas all over! Championes! Championes! Olé, olé, olé!
