Why don't we go for Harvey Elliott? He would be a great addition to the squad. Always played well against us.

I think Villa have had a close up look at him and would agree with you and decided he is not worth buying after all .The loan to buy deal was based on games so Villa aren't playing him and will send him back to Liverpool at the end of the season .
Thats pretty rough on Elliot who looked like a decent prospect IMO , the move to Villa really has stalled his development

Yep from memory it was a £35m fee, so yeah not great for the kid. And not great for Liverpool trying to negotiate a fee in the summer. Wont be anything starting with a 3.
 
I'd be very happy to sign Elliott in the summer. Great age, was excellent for England u21s in the summer, plenty of experience already. I think there was once some talk of us not fancying him as he hasn't got much pace, but Eze and Olise were not exactly greyhounds. More to the point, we desperately lack creativity and subtlety. I think if we had him now, we'd be a far better team.

I'm not too concerned about villa not picking him. They are on a particularly treacherous financial high wire most of the time, and had to sell to comply with FFP. It might be as simple as them having arranged the Elliott deal in the belief that they had a couple of outgoing transfers lined up, only to see them fall through.

The only stumbling block for me is whether the players heart was in it. I think that's a big concern whenever a player leaves a big club to come to us.

So give this one a bump as it looks like he's out of the Liverpool picture. We're in need of central midfielders

Scored a lot more goals than our current options

I was thinking about this possibility when I read the article. An upgrade.alternative to Kamada. Perhaps a playmaker option for who Wharton is sold? A cheeky £15m bid would test their resolve

Not at all. I made no criticism of him. Surely you would agree that the club should be trying to buy players who would improve the 1st team not just bulk out the squad. It’s not gonna be easy to better Wharton but Kamada I think it’s possible.
