Hamstrings?

There are reports that Nketiah has done a hamstring following on from the same happening to Eze, Lerma and Umeh. An occupational hazard for footballers for sure but four seems like a lot - could it be a training issue or are they just concidental?

Often wonder about our medical team and facilities. However, I'm not convinced out injuries are usually worse than any other team's. Yet, I feel most teams have a decent 25 man squad, or at least 22 they can realistically rely on plus a couple of youngsters. Something we've invariably never had. We can also count Holding out currently - not that I particularly blame Glasner.

Cumulatively they might be on a par (not parade, thanks spell checker) but four out with the same injury?

It does seem rather bad luck. It's something that goes when you overplay - Lerma. But also something that goes when you're not quite up to full speed - Nketiah. However, I wouldn't be convinced our fitness regime/sports science/physios/ medical team are as good as everyone else's. Seemed crap under Roy and Vieira and not sure what we have done since. I'm not really in a position to judge however. Did Glasner bring any fitness people with him? I could look but it feels like cheating.

He can be if his training methods are too much or lax. Tho with Nketiah, he did it with his 'personal trainer' outside of official training.
The manager doesn't oversee the players fitness and training, its done by physios and coaches. Even if he did, why arent all players going down with hamstring pulls?

He has brought Michael Berktold with him as a fitness trainer. Berktold has a very solid education as a fitness coach, many years of experience (RB Salzburg and German Bundesliga) and a very good reputation among sports physicians and players he coached. In terms of coaching, there shouldn't be any major problems with fitness or injuries caused by incorrect training.

I suppose the issue is, there shouldn’t be any problems, but there clearly are and the numbers of injuries across the whole of the PL is quite astounding when you consider the “quality” of the physios and coaches.

Personally I think the modern semi artificial surfaces are partially to blame but can’t find any stats to support that theory.

With modern training regimes designed to get every last ounce of performance out of players and a coach who wants players to press high coupled with games now lasting 100 minutes and the fixture list getting bigger season after season it’s inevitable there will be more injuries. Hence the need for 5 subs and a deeper squad to cope. At least we don’t have European football.

Which is why, if the rumours are true, that it's beggars belief that Nketiah was having Extra external sessions with a Personal Trainer! It's a recipe for an Injury.

And those extra 10 minutes involve a lot of standing around doing nothing which can't help anyone. Maybe the semi-automated offside decisions will cut the playing time down. Maybe.

At the press conference Glasner took the blame for Nketiah's injury.
Glasner said that Nketiah had made the most intense sprints of any of the players in recent games and that he should have substituted him earlier in the matches.
I got the impression he was attempting to take the heat off any potential criticism of Nketiah for getting injured.

In terms of the wider issue of all the injuries he seemed phlegmatic i.e all clubs have problems partly attributable to the schedule.
He maintains that we'll still be able to put out a competitive team and prefers to take a 'half glass full' view.

He does seem very protective of his players. Holding must have really pi$$ed his kipper.

Nketiah text me saying he's faking it to get out of playing.
I'm not sure I can criticise him for extra training. He may have had a specific issue and felt it was necessary. Apparently his personal fitness coach has a good track record so this maybe just bad luck.

Anyway I would rather a player trying too hard in training than a Connor Wickham.
