If the following clip is anything to go by, this could easily rival Monty Python's North Minehead by-election:-

'This surprised me' - Owen Jones.

Not me it didn't.......

🙂

One of the many election features are many people vote for the bookies favourite and post election tell everyone "I backed the winner" like some sort of horse race, rather than vote for the best thing for the country.

Or, on the other hand, the kind of observation that informs people on a much deeper level than people realise? In the same way that I have nothing other than utter contempt for people who fail to thank waiters or similar?

But changing the subject here, and a question primarily for the Lefties on here, I think it's clear Labour are going to lose this seat. Who do you think they prefer to lose to? Reform or the Greens? Because both will clearly be eating into their supporter base. Which one, potentially, offers the biggest long term danger to them as a political party?

Firstly this is a very silly question the sort of thing that was asked when I was eleven years old but blessed with endless patience I will answer,It is a bit like asking It is the last game of the season which team would you prefer to lose to and get relegated *big reveal* neither. Both the far left Green Party and that rag tag dad's army lot called Reform will always draw support at a by-election, Orpington in 1962 is a much cited case. When the cold light of day dawns on people on Polling Day in a General Election they will want a seasoned Party that has experience in Government or go for "personality politics". Both upstart parties are losing ground in the opinion polls , the Gorton by election has no bearing on the G.E. and Labour see it as all by elections are a side show with no lasting relevance.

Fair enough. So to sum up, you see both Reform and this current manifestation of the Green Party as mere fripperies of the current Zeitgiest and that come the next GE, the political equilibrium, in seats like this, will return? That despite everything of the last few years, people will return to the 'tribal' voting patterns of before?

Yes because a well oiled machine is required to run Government it cannot be done by bodgers , Labour's successes are starting to bear fruit Rail Fare freeze, income for January doubled lowering inflation and Interest Rates etc etc Most voters are 60 Years old + and most heavily rely on the State Pension and the Triple Lock and Labour and Tory are seen as very safe on that issue, Farage recently was very equivocal about the Triple Lock without being overly dramatic he has entered a political minefield without a map to show the way out.

Wtf? LOL.

Thank you for that!

Brilliant, you are being sarcastic presumably.

How many u turns?

The bye election will be interesting to see if the Greens can win enough Asian votes to make it over the line.

Alua Akbar used to mean " I am about to explode ". Now it means " please recycle thoughtfully"

Labour are done

Snake oil you mean?

Ref

One of Reform UK's campaign team in Thursday's Gorton and Denton by-election has been suspended over racist and antisemitic comments he made on social media.

For several days Reform UK refused to say whether its interim campaign manager Adam Mitula had been suspended from the party but Mitula confirmed it on Monday.

It comes after evidence was published appearing to show he posted a highly offensive racial slur aimed at black people, and also made what appeared to be a derogatory remark about Jewish women.

He also appears to have agreed with a Holocaust denier that the number of Jewish people murdered by the Nazis had been exaggerated. Mitula said his comments have been taken out of context.

Disciplinary process

He claimed he was defending the Jewish community.

The allegations against Mitula were based on information gathered by the anti-racism group Hope Not Hate, apparently from his X account, which he has now deleted.

Mitula said: "I'm confirming my suspension as a Reform member pending investigation.

"The comments in question were taken out of context, and actually defended the Jewish community."

He added later he had "no comment" to make on the racial slur he used in relation to black people.

Reform UK said: "With regard to Adam Mitula, our disciplinary process is confidential and we do not provide a running commentary on any potential cases that are being considered."

There are more than 76,000 potential voters in the Gorton and Denton by-election spread across Denton in Tameside, and Gorton, Levenshulme and Burnage in Manchester.

A full list of the candidates and their minute manifestos can be found here.

One of the many reasons I would rather gnaw my arm off than vote Reform is that they are spineless HnH bitch boys.

Personally, I would not vote for anybody HnH approved of, end of story. In fact, HnH slagging them off would be a positive in my book.

A little more pragmatism is required if we are to turn this country around.

Unless you think that God and Rupert Lowe will do it between them. Don't hold your breath. 😉

Sick to death of being pragmatic. Pragmatic is what got us here. I want extremism. As I have said, I suspect its all too late and that only a full economic collapse will save the UK because once the welfare state breaks down, then the rats will flee the sinking ship in droves. But until then, my vote only goes to people I have the utmost faith in.

And Farage lost that a long time ago.
