GOAL DROUGHT

I was always a Glasner "In" man, but I am now wondering if it is time for him to go. The problem is clear. We cannot defend as a unit, but more importantly we cannot score to save our lives. I have never been a Mateta fan, even more so now his loyalty to a club that made him has been proven to be artificial. He is statistically in the Top 3 of worst finishers in all of Europe.

The other BIG failure is our midfielders and their ability to not score. I did some research last night and was shocked.

WHARTON - 77 Games - (0 goals)
KAMADA - 50 Games (0 Goals)
HUGHES 100+ Games (1 goal)
LERMA - 84 Games (1 Goal)

Approx 315 games and 2 goals in the Premier League. Thank God for MUNOZ and SARR.

Sort it Glasner and maybe some more shooting practise!

Maybe permission to shoot would be a start !

Playing 8 defensive players and 3 attacking players doesn't help for a start.

You are correct. Kamada, Lerma, Hughes and Wharton are identical and defensively minded. Amazes me how Wharton who is so good and precise with his passing cannot manage to find the net....it's like he has a phobia to scoring

In the 'Glasner Way' the wing-backs are pivotal in providing an attacking threat down the flanks.
Munoz has been totally ineffective since his return from injury and Mitchell has never been renowned for his offensive prowess in the final third.
Agreed Willo. Munoz not the same yet, but cannot question his output.

This I feel is the biggest undoing of our team - interesting the goal stats or lack of , but I’d love to the attempts stats too

I swear my head off every game at the lack of creativity in players taking on players ,running towards goal but the pure lack of confidence in the midfield players in attempting a shot is fing unreal.Mitchell was doing brilliant start of season flying but last few games he’s resorted to control ball , look back pass back , rather than f this guy I’m going past him , try to mix it up by maybe , pass it forward. Then the bloody midfield players taking 40k or above per week - try to run with it please & do what we all want to do Shoot & Score ! But our Midfield I don’t know just seem to pass pass pass

Had the manager trained out of players the natural instinct of creativity , free thinking ,calculated risk taking ?

Hey Faz, we all see it my friend. You are right - complete lack of confidence from 90% of the team (except Strand Larsen, Sarr, Munoz). Johnson and Pino look terrible right now.......55-60m spent on them

It doesn't but it's still a mystery how professional midfield players are incapable of getting a shot on target. It's not some mystical gift - it's a learnable skill. Wharton is rightly praised for his passing ability; well pass the ball into the net then.

Well said Teddy Eagle, exactly the point I made! These guys can pass through a hole in a tyre and yet freeze when they see a net !!!

Previously our down fall was. Set pieces be it the long throw ,corner or the silly free kick from edge of box.

Yet we ( Oli) had no idea , alternative to the low block tactic that so many clubs now know we are LOST !

Likely this is where other coaches has spotted Olis weakness - he has no mechanism to. Real this down,

Yet the low block does entice our midfielders to 1st touch the ball just left or right of his marker , or feint that move to provide 1/2 yard to then curl one over - towards the goal , top bins - OMDs shout the crowd we are back

That’s all it takes creating an opportunity from the low block.
