Glasner Out

So the saga continues, for now at least.

What I like the least about Ollie's outburst, is that it would seem he has created an 'us (him and the players) and them (the board)' environment.

I just can't see how this can possibly continue for the remainder of the season without it being detrimental to the club.

For me it comes down to two things:

If Glasner was promised that there would be new signings in order to take Palace "to the next level" and this did not materialise - then he has every right to be pissed.

If Glasner was told that Palace have financial constraints and can spend very little if anything for the good of the club - then he should have shut up.

I don't know what conversations were between him and Steve Parish.

However his level of anger - something I don't think I've ever seen by a Palace manager - leads me to believe it's the former. I could be wrong but the guy is really angry.

Yes, he may have been like this at other clubs but so what? Maybe he doesn't like being lied to. We need to get to the facts of the matter as all we can do now is speculate while Palace have remained silent.
Sorry, Gordon, but I'm pretty sure it's the latter. As others have pointed out, he has form for this. And I refuse to accept that Parish would lie if it were apparent that the lie would be exposed later on. If Glasner was happy to take credit for last season and the cup win, so he must also take responsibility for this atrocious string of results.

I'm firmly with Parish on this.

Even by the standards of Crystal Palace football club everything that has happened in the last eight days is completely unbelievable. This article is so weird. Guessing they have been fed this but Parish is deliberately giving no quotes.

Bewildered.

It only makes sense that the overwhelming reaction to Glasner's post match interviews was that he wanted out immediately with his contract paid up by being sacked. Shearer and Rooney intimated the same on MOTD.

And if that is what he wants the board will do the opposite.

I await developments.

If Glasner backtracks my guess is there is a risk he was in breach of his contract with his damaging comments.

As regards Mateta I have said many times that he is a good striker but not a great one. Look at the stats. His only hot streak of form came when the players around him were creating 20 chances plus per game. ANY good striker would score goals in that situation. He is replaceable.
The obvious point though is if Juve do offer £30m and he goes we must make sure we get another target man that can finish.

If he is staying and it’s not a power move to force him out without any compensation I do wonder what the bench players from yesterday are going to think about all of this.

You’re now playing for a manager for the next several months who thinks you’re crap.

I agree. He was trying to put a wedge between the players and the club. He was with the players. The players were with him. And the club was against them.

I'd say that was a given. Its written into most contracts these day that the manager cannot publicly criticize the owners

Is the club contractually obligated to the PL for the manager to be the one that does the press work?

Glasner clearly hates journalists and it certainly doesn’t benefit us for him to do them anymore.

I can see us losing at least two of the Chelsea, Forest and Brighton games. Giving him a microphone afterwards is a disaster waiting to happen.

Ye that's the part that I too really dislike.

I have sympathy with him asking for business to be done early, more transfers etc but not in the way he's gone about it. I'd be even more sympathetic if he'd actually tried to integrate more squad players but I feel he's done this very poorly. Yesterday refusing to make subs was just childish, and despite him saying he's protecting players, he's actually putting them at further injury risk through lack of rotation.

I personally am doubtful such a toxic situation can be rectified and fans have been very patient with the bad run of form but after this outburst he won't be getting an easy ride from the fans. I'd rather he went now to avoid this, I'd prefer to remember him for the overwhelming positivity of his tenure instead of a toxic ending. If he stays i struggle to see how a positive outcome can be navigated... Especially as by his next press conference we'll most likely have sold Mateta! LOL

Sky just announced Board want OG to see our his contract!
WTF
Ollie has already said he won't walk out on his contract. Parish has to make himself look good through all this. He knows if they sack him they have to pay compensation. The crowd will likely turn on Ollie if the next game goes tits up against Chelsea and he may rethink about resigning. Parish offers to terminate without compensation. Ollie goes to Spurs Frank comes to Palace. Job done and Parish comes up smelling of roses again. Just my theory😄

This is all a bit Michael Corleone vs Moe Green.

Instead of

‘’I talk to Barzini’’ it’s Man Utd or Spurs

’’Think about a price’’ it’s think about the your reputation of your ability in the EPL beyond under 18 months.

I just hope for OG’s sake he’s not doing a Senator Geeri.

Yeah but OG is making his position untenable. Even Shearer has sided a bit with Parish while OG ruins it all. Either unusual, Shearer has had a lobotomy, or he’s realised the audience is getting smarter or smarter than him or than he thought.

Seems the best outcome to me , No one mentioned as a new potential Palace manager fills me with confidence , As the injured players return to fitness , Sarr is back from the Afcon cup and dare I say it Parish brings in new players things should improve .
Man Utd or Spurs are just going to have to wait ..

Parish seems to be be calling Glasner's bluff by making him honour his contract.

Glasner's rant seems to have been triggered by a lack of communication and the timing for the Guehi sale. He has had a long standing issue with the quality and amount of transfers in the summer, with obvious pressure applied to the board to sign more players now if we are to finish the season well.

His mentality is like a fan after a loss with his frustrations pouring out. We all get that, and there is no doubt that without the benefit of an intimate knowledge of the club's finances, it's easy to believe, as Glasner does, that we have wasted an opportunity to gain momentum after our triumphant 2025.

What to do now? After a night to think about it, I believe that keeping Glasner on would be the best way forward, as long as things can be smoothed over between him and the chairman.
If they both want what is best for the team, then some compromises have to be made. We certainly need another signing or two, and Glasner needs to recognise that his power over decisions was effectively erased when he said he was leaving in the summer.

If he walks, then so be it, but I don't think that Frank would be a good choice to replace him right now because he needs a break to recover from the Spurs effect. An interim is an option, but we can't have a complete meltdown of team morale. We need a positive outcome from all this to move forward again.

We require three wins to be safe and we still have Europe. Lots to play for.

So thats settled,
Glasner said he will not walk out. The board have leaked their feelings that he will not be sacked.
So...the only sensible thing to do is get behind the team. I hope that happens between now and the end of the season and we start to crawl towards stability both on and off the pitch.

I have heard far worse theories than yours.
