Get rid of the transfer window

I wish we could wind the clock back to pre 2002/2003. Before this many will remember that there was no transfer window. A club could sign a player at any time they deemed it necessary. If I recall correctly you had up to the end of January to finalise your squad for the remainder of the season.
All the window serves now is to inflate prices and cause panic. Not to mention the stress for all concerned, especially the fans of small/medium clubs. Having looked up why the window currently exists (no it’s not Sky fault!!) it is stated for this reason.

Motivation for Change:
The move to a standardized window was driven by a desire to regulate the market, improve the stability of club squads, and provide greater certainty for players and clubs.

Well that hasn’t exactly worked out then!
You know when you are starting to get old, when you constantly hark back to the good old days!!
 
Not sure if this would be a good idea. Considering the money which Top 6 spends, it would help them to assess their squad and tweak when they need on the go (or in case there is any injury) This may end up luring any player from teams like Palace while they are running riots.

In fact opposite, i don’t like it being so late. It would close before the league starts. I think this is due to other countries’ window but then i would apply the deadline within England.

It completely spoils the first few games as a Palace fan. We did well this season but you dread it really.

I don't like the transfer window, but its better than the wild west we had before. Imagine worrying if you could keep Eze / Guehi / whoever, week after week throughout the whole season while the big clubs had the cash to buy almost anyone at any time. They really were playing Fantasy Manager!! Player injured? Raid another club. Striker having a lean spell! Raid another club! Goalies all a bit crap (Man U heh heh)? Raid another club. The tension of trying to keep a prized player throughout the whole season was horrible!
 
They have to change it so it closes before the season starts. I’d make it as short as possible too to reduce the speculation and torture. Clubs scout all the time and do their homework on players so they have their targets in mind. A short 2 week window should be enough. Same in January.
 
What they need to get rid of is this recent 5 substitutes nonsense that Uncle Fritz at Liverpool demanded.
It was initially brought in to alleviate pressure during COVID but actually all it does now is give an advantage to wealthier clubs.
Look at this window. £69m for Hugo Ekitike only to bench him for £125m Isak?
Garnacho to Chelsea bench?
Eze to Arsenal bench?

These teams now have benches stronger than entire other clubs and they can bring on five of these elite level players to put a game to bed.
 
Some good points. My views.

1. I suspect that the Transfer Window is illegal (EU) there is currently a court case ongoing which if it ever gets to judgement may collapse the system.

It is a restraint on trade / freedom of movement. If there is a willing buyer seller and player they should not be restricted as to when a player can move.

2. That said I agree the window should be shorter and finish before the start of the season. This is the whole point previously clubs were complaining that they spent all year chasing players or fending off bids. Well if you are going to have a window and it is found to be legal the summer one is way too long.

3. Interesting point about subs favouring the big clubs. I agree the whole thing stinks having a big bench and 5 subs definitely favours the clubs with deep pockets.

4. I would also restrict the number of outgoing loans (stock piling). Yes I know that contradicts my point about restraint on trade but again it favours the big clubs. You can poach a youngster from a small club, whose never going to make it in your first team, but so what, you loan him to other clubs and maybe you get lucky and he turns out to be a star. Meanwhile the small club get very little money for coaching him and it deprives their fans of the joy of one of their own.
 
I'd like it closed before the window too.

I'd also do away with these stupid deal sheets. You've literally had the whole summer, why does anyone need an extra 2 hours.

Good post . Everything is geared to the 'elite' clubs .I have been amazed in recent years that we dont lose more games in final stages after the subs have been made .As you say others bring on half a team of internationals we in recent seasons just haven't had anything more than some fresh legs ,if that .

As for the window , it has to close before the season starts and no mid season window which effectively means you have June and July to do your player trading
 
I disagree with not having a January window because of injuries. Maybe it could be a loan window in January. That would also allow clubs to assess a few players before the summer sales window.
 
Sky Sports News and all the journos love the transfer window... I don't like the fact it's getting more and more like US sports in terms of endless coverage now... very strange to have Palace leading the news though.

It's not going to go... If anything, they'll find ways to make it even more convoluted and 'news worthy'.

And all this 'who won the transfer window' nonsense. It's just absurd.

I like that last point. If clubs have a limit on how many loans they can bring in, why don't clubs have a limit on how many they can loan out?

Window should absolutely close before the season starts. All other leagues fall into line… as it should be 😂

At the moment the big clubs hoover up the young talent with the knowledge they can loan them out and at least pay their wages. If loan outs was restricted to a handful then clubs like Chelsea would think twice about signing so many youngsters as they would have to pay their wages, perish the thought.

All european clubs transfer windows should end on say july 31st or BEFORE any league starts back.
Simple.

It really is. Just once it's be nice to see a club go through the window without buying anyone and then say
"We're perfectly happy with the players we've got and they're all doing a great job".
Won't happen though because the money has to keep circulating or someone might expect it to actually show up somewhere.
 
I dislike the top teams hoovering up the proven premier league players to cement their status. Clubs like us have to take a chance on lower league players, improve them only to have them be taken from us (I’m not begrudging the players). It means we can never improve above our level and they can spend huge sums to keep theirs.
I’d like the top 6 to be only allowed to sign below premier league players and see how their elite managers perform. The money they waste too is criminal.
