Fulham vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Some Scouse witch has cursed us and another one from Addo has blessed us verses Fulham🤣

We were very lucky to win that as our defence was all over the place. Maybe Disasi had a good game. Mitchell was good going forward but that’s about it!

Not sure what to make of our attack and midfield.
Wharton should have been hooked after 65 mins. Timber was alright. Kamada and Pino were okay when they got on the ball but that wasn’t frequently enough.
Eddie had some good moments but was rightly removed at halftime. JSL when he came on had a couple of terrible first touches but grew into the game.

What’s our best team? I’ve no idea

I'm really not understanding the Nketiah bashing?

He was linking up really well on the left, stretched the pitch to create the disorganisation for Kamada's offside goal.

I think he went off injured, he got crunched just before half time

Blimey 😳just watched match of the day highlights and they gave us a lot of praise and just seemed to want to criticise Fulham’s performance, saying THEY were all over the place. They weren’t wrong about Fulham, but because we pinched the game they didn’t mention our poor defending. A good thing I suppose, but at least Pierre in a longer interview I see knows we’ve got problems at the back and he won’t let the win paper over the cracks

Just watched MOTD, there guenuinly is no point watching it if you want to know how a game actually went. Feels like they are all about the 'narrative', Fulham lost 3 in a row so pressure all on Arbeloa.

Agree on Sage, seems so honest, on it and level headed. Really starting to like him.

Our best team would have Sarr in it and probably JPM. We have Mingueza and Osorio to come in at some stage too if not as starters they're better options than we had last year . A fit Tomiyasu can only benefit the team as well.
Despite some reservations I thought we did alright and winning away after being behind twice is a good sign.
You'd think Fulham and Coventry would be more concerned and as for Tottenham...

I'd say attack was pretty good. We scored 3, had one disallowed and could have had more.

Clearly we were a mess at the back. Richards particularly, but to be fair all 3 of them made stupid mistakes.

He was linking up really well on the left, stretched the pitch to create the disorganisation for Kamada's offside goal.

I think he went off injured, he got crunched just before half time

We rode our luck, but we didn’t get any away to Everton so im really happy to get points on the board. That first half we kept giving the ball away in dangerous areas, but I didn’t have the best of views 3 rows from the front, so sometimes it was hard to tell.

It’s reassuring to have a player like Chillwell to come on when Mitchell went off, his measure of calmness and positional sense is very evident. Took his goal well once the ball broke to him.

Hopefully players like Chilwell and Desai will use their experience to sort the defence out.

For Fulham's second goal Richards was left trailing wide on the touchline after getting easily turned and I'm thinking, "What is he doing out there, where's the full back?" Calamitous defensive organisation which Sage has acknowledged.

Spot on, that was my point, obviously I enjoyed the win in the end, but it was pretty poor from us at times and Fulham will wonder how they didn’t win, but motd seemed hell bent on slaughtering them.
I agree, I know it’s easy to say after a win, but Sage has really grown on me

i thought he had a very good half, IMO a better CF than Mateta or JP, also the cross from Pino with the outside of his foot for Kamada's "goal" was class.

Shows how you can't really trust highlights and analysis. Yes Fulham didn't defend that well but we were much worse imo and only got away with it due to Hendo and some horrific finishing. The xG from the game backs that up.

Yes we’ll take the much needed win, but a better team than Fulham would’ve wiped the floor with us yesterday, definitely missing LaCroix that’s for sure

Such an important win.
One thing - the long ball may reappear and I am more than happy with that. People have always said that Nketiah needs through balls - so give it to him.
Alexander Arnold’s career has been spent hitting long balls and he is considered brilliant.

I thought Henderson was superb yesterday as was Kamada. Richards feels like he is becoming a liability and Canvot wasn’t much better. There were huge gaps and Fulham cut through us quite easily on a number occasions but thankfully couldn’t finish. 3 very useful points and I’m pleased Sage watched the same game as me with his comments afterwards. Onwards and hopefully upwards.

Strand Larsen's one touch hold-up and lay off for Pino to make the pass was very fine indeed, as was the whole swift pass and move - Strand Larsen / Pino / Khalaili boom boom boom, broke the Fulham line and we were in, looked like a training ground move put into practice. What was interesting from a tactical point of view about the third goal was that both full backs ended up ahead of the strikers. That's really going for it!

It was nice... Just wished he'd be able to do it more often. In similar positions yesterday he failed to hold the ball up on many occasions, players make the runs and then he loses it and we're completely out of position. He needs to improve dramatically. I thought Nketiah was better than him yesterday and when Mateta is fit he's also ahead of him.

My biggest concern for him is for Sage's system press to work the forward has to start it but I just don't think JSL has that type of speed, tenacity and energy in him. He's a limited striker but further hindered by a formation...yet he's not performed nearly well enough to suggest the formation should be adapted around him.

I currently feel that when everyone's fit, Sarr would actually be best suited to play up top in Sage's system. But he'd have to be fully emotionally recovered first 😉

He had some good moments but overall I felt he was ineffective. Maybe I’m being unfair.

I was encouraged to note Sage’s post match reaction acknowledging the importance of getting the back 3 right and that it ‘all starts from there.’
Some may not have liked him highlighting the mistakes by Richards and Canvot, essentially breaking football’s silent rule about ‘not naming names’ , but he did acknowledge their improvement in the second half.

We were blessed with our back 3 of Guehi, Lacroix and Richards, which I probably wouldn’t have swapped for any other defence in the league.
It was those 3 working as a unit which allowed Wharton, Sarr, Munoz and Mateta to do their stuff going forward.
The three featured week in and week out with little rotation unless through reasons of injury.

My hope is that Sage will similarly settle on a unit ,without chopping and changing, and gets them drilled into a tight and organised group that is capable of achieving clean sheets and takes conceding of goals as a personal insult.
We can’t concede 2 goals every week and expect to win too many, even if yesterday was a pleasant and welcome surprise.

I have been saying for some time even before today’s game that Richards and Canvot are liabilities much as I actually like them both and think they can and will develop further. I think they should both be rested and we should use the resources we have with Disasi, Mingueza, Chilwell, Tyrick Mitchell, Tomiyasu and Khalaili either as a back 4 (my preference) or a back 5 with Chilwell as the left centre back. We need steady experienced players at the back that have leadership qualities. If we can achieve that then who knows what can happen this season. I don’t envy being in Sage’s shoes as he has some tough decisions to make. In midfield, I was impressed by Timber. Personally I would play Kamada there as well and I thought he had a good game yesterday. That leaves three up top and that would have to be Mateta, Sarr and Pino who had a decent game yesterday.

Lastly, just a shout out to Henderson for another world class display and to birthday boy Mitchell, how good was that finish? The strikers should take notes.
