Fulham vs. Crystal Palace League Cup match thread

What better teams dont miss they do alot . Because better teams would score 8 per game at least against anyone but they dont . I really hate that statement because there's no proof they would have scored them chances . If your Aunt had bollocks she would be your Uncle but she not . She still your Aunt . We scored they didn't
The better teams convert a higher percentage of the chances they create. Otherwise they wouldn't win so many games.

You might hate that statement but it's a fact.

We need to play our best team and I agree with the 433 that was posted earlier.
Hendo
Minguez
Mitchell
Richards
Disasi
Wharton
Kamada
Timber
Pino
Sarr
Mateta

This is a decent side, capable of beating any team.

Be happy with that save Sarr is probably 'injured'. In which case be tempted to push Kamada up and use Hughes.

There's blocking and there's wrestling the defender five yards off the pitch which was what Fulham did on a couple of their 'clear chances'
Had they scored and dare I say with the hated VAR they would likely have been disallowed anyway .
No VAR until the semis in this competition.

Man city score all there shots chances no . 2 games 30 shots only 2 goals with 70% procession . There strike rate is below 20% this season . So they need 5 chances to score 1 on avg . And the 2 games they needed 15 to score one .So playing a better team doesn't mean they will take them chances

Yes, I watched it.

3-0 is an exaggeration. They had one really good chance that should've been put away, but the others were just standard chances that teams get in a match. I watched the organisation with great detail (as a coach, I've become accustomed to doing so) and our shape was much better than usual, the distances between lines were more compact and the team looked more connected than in recent weeks. Yes, of course you sacrifice a bit of attacking endeavour to achieve that...but football is all about balancing those two objectives right? Hughes was barking orders the whole game, demanding more from his teammates and getting stuck in. Frankly, to suggest his inclusion played no part in our positive result is laughable - back at ya.
I only watched the highlights so can't comment on Hughes's performance and I'm no football coach but it was good to read that, like me, you only saw the one clear chance that should have been put away which I assume is the Tete one, as that's the only almost sitter that I saw on the highlights in the 1st half. The others were chances but not bad misses, i.e. they weren't chances that ought to have been put away.

I would pick much the same team and system, but make two observations:

Firstly, funny how Mingueza is popping up in a few fan-selections on here. I didn't see the Fulham game so might be doing him a disservice, but he was awful in Lyon, and even had his pants pulled down a couple of times by Boro's reserves. I think perhaps he is being suggested because of how bad Khalili has been, rather than his own performances. I would not be surprised if Mingueza plays more in the coming weeks, but also not be surprised if he gets beaten easily fairly often at our great expense.

Secondly, a change to 433 in itself may not make us a more stable team. Any system needs proper coaching. If we press too high when its inappropriate to do so, or don't have a compact shape, we will still be weak at the back.

Mingueza provided a good assist. Not much else, but it was a good assist. He can cross. So can McNeil. We should start using it.

Agree on both points.

Mingueza for me has looked very nervous or overwhelmed when he's played, thus just as all over the place as anybody else has been. Does look to be a footballer there though, and if we are waiting on everybody to get their wits together I'd vote for him to keep his place. Very young and big tranisiton into a struggling team.

Leads to the second point however - I agree. We've looked so bad, mishapen and clueless that a formation change seems a bet to improve things, I'm certainly for it, but offers no guarantees with the same coaching staff in place.

Yes. I thought the first half was a majestically imperious display of unadulterated footballing brilliance unequaled since Brazil in 1970 and every player deserved a Ballon d'Or for the performance.
i accept this is in jest, but there's clearly no point you commenting on this game, or any other really, is there.
