Fulham vs. Crystal Palace League Cup match thread

Total Fulham dominance. They should have been 3 goals to the good before Nketiah scored very much against the run of play.
Credit to Mingueza for the cross and the sublime finish by Nketiah but Andersen never covered himself with glory with his defending.
 
I’ve always thought Mingueza was a better option than Khaliali, he’s played at a higher level and he has good end product especially with crosses and he’s good with keeping his position. Against Lyon he had bad game but so did most players.
Hard to look too much into this game as both teams made many changes.

Well, what do you know. Palace reserves winning 1:0 🙂 Defence being helped by playing 5 across the back a lot of the time plus midfield very defence minded. Only problem are crosses not being won but they missed their chances with easy headers, thankfully! Great cross and strike for the goal. Thanks to poor defending by Andersen 🙂 Going to be a difficult second half I expect but being 1 up wasn’t expected. Let’s hope we hold on?
 
Lucky Deano is back. Think Fulham would have at least one if not. Team is trying but look like they have just not played together enough to look like they know what they are doing. Were getting better towards the end of the half.
 
The worrying inability to defend crosses and corners continues. It’s been a bloody free header fest!
Spurs will be looking at our “zonal” marking and working out ways to exploit it.

It just seems like Sage has done nothing to change our way of defending (or should I say our really poor defending) - it hasn’t improved and if we get a result tonight it will be through luck - just like our two league wins.

Great to see Deano and Doucoure back though.
 
Evening all. I've been otherwise engaged until now. The computer machine tells me that we are one nil up despite having 23% possession and an XG of 0.1.

I do not profess to understand such things and so thought I'd ask some human beings how we are playing.

So, presuming you lot aren't actually Russian bots sent to slowly undermine my faith in Western democracy, how are we playing? Brilliantly, I presume?

The team are playing a lot deeper but we're still offering up loads of space in dangerous positions. Not any defensive improvement in my opinion. Mainly luck that Fulham haven't scored due to their bad finishing... Much like when we beat them in the league.

Sage has often said possession is the best form of defence... Yet we constantly play a formation that allows us to be completely dominated in the middle of the pitch. Hence our 20% possession. Quite bizarre.

Nice goal though and our fans sound good.

We're relatively poor. Should have conceded at least one early on. Then slightly improved near the end of the half. Unconvincing mainly.
Clinical goal, cross from Mingueza was promising. Eddie, one touch goal - got across Andersen. On the break, completely against run of play. Hence the stats.
