Fulham v CPFC FA Cup Thread

OG was spot on when he said the team looked rusty after the recent break. Fulham could and should have gone in front in the opening 20 minutes. And although Darren England failed to punish Fulham fouls similar to the Palace ones that merited yellow cards in his eyes, I thought Wharton looked odds on to get a second yellow for that piece of uncharacteristic petulance.

Once Palace settled into the game and Ebs opened the scoring there only looked like one winner. The way the players go about their work in implementing Glasners tactical plans is truly impressive.

Interesting that 2 of the subs yesterday, Nketiah and Smith-Rowe, are expensive Arsenal cast offs that have both found it difficult to make an impression with their new clubs. While we have been critical of Eddie, yesterday he scored the kind of goal that I had envisaged him scoring when he signed for us. Fulham fans I have spoken to think that Smith - Rowe has been an overpriced disappointment. And I recall a conversation on HOL in which it was felt we should have signed him instead of Eddie.

A great day out was capped by Brighton suffering in that penalty shoot out. I always think that hurts more than losing in normal / extra time. Lovely 😀
I think most of us did. I re-watched the game this morning & the thing i noticed about that incident is, apart from Muniz rolling around like a baby, the ref never spoke to Wharton. He did however, call the Fulham captain & Muniz over & from what i can gather, told them to stop the play acting & get on with the game. Muniz could've had a yellow card for 'simulation' Notice he never went down like he'd been shot for the rest of the game, strange that.

He kicked out. Straight red.

His sudden fame may have gone to his head. Not how I expect him to act.

I actually think that Muniz pathetic play acting saved Wharton from a second yellow.

I’m sure OG will be having a word with him

Judging by his placid display in the second half I think Wharton knows what a Glasner hairdryer looks like. The rest of the team probably sat there shaking their heads thinking “silly boy”.

Hopefully lesson learned and he will be first on the team sheet on Wednesday.

How did we get on against them last time? Memory pulls a bit…

COYP
Well, when we beat them 4-1 recently in the league, it looked for the first 30 minutes that they were one of the best sides we've met this season; they really looked like they were going to drub us. Then we got a goal against the run of play to go in at half time 1-0 up with me thinking "How the hell are we winning this?"

In the second half we got better and they just imploded and we turned out 4-1 winners.

These are my thoughts. Am I alone with this or did others read the game the same?

I think 2008 was the last time neither finalist were one of the big 6. Portsmouth / Cardiff

I really hope Citeh go out at least it will make it interesting for the neutrals.

The FA Cup has just become a top 6 competition so it would be nice the have some new faces.

I watched the game on Premiersports. There was a short display of Ollie after the foul tapping his fore head silently and afterwards pointing with his fingers that he may have got carded. So he will tell AW what he thought about it. On the other hand, Ollie wasnt the most composed defender during his days as an active player, SV Ried the team he played for were usually referred to as "woodcutters" in the league. So probably AW will escape without capital punishment. 😉

We missed Will Hughes' on pitch captaincy a bit (would probably have said something like 'leave that sort of stuff to me Adam, you're no good at it anyway').

Good news is yellow cards are reset for the semi finals.

What a goal Eze's was.

Firstly the ball finds its way to Max, just inside our half. He looks up and plays a wonderful 40yd pass that finds Mitchell who's control is just instant as is the simple ball inside to Ebs
who does what he does best: cutting in and bending it in the far post.

I think Max's long ball was first class. Hey, Joachim you're not the only one who can do that, I thought. A very satisfying moment.

As a few have said it was a great performance, completely nullifying the oppo, and being clinical when it mattered.

We are winning quite a few games at the min, without the oppo really laying a hair on us. Its not swashbuckling football, but the structure is so effective, Hendo is rarely getting called into action.

No more demands to change the formation I see..... 😉

Much like the last game we played.

Slow starters.

Yes, it’s a feature of our play: always better in the 2nd half of the game and always a better side in the 2nd half of the season. When the daffodils are out, Palace bloom.

Quite right!

Looks to me that 3-4-3 is an incredibly hard system to get right. Noting the issues at the beginning of the season and what is happening at Old Trafford. You need a great coach and players with the right qualities and mentality.

But if you can get it right it offers a tactical advantage against teams playing 4 at the back.
