Fulham Predictions.

Sorry but thats rubbish. There's talking Palace down and then theres plain disrespecting our own players

Have you seen our bench recently? I think he’s right, Fulham’s bench, as with most teams at the moment will be a lot stronger than ours, it’s not disrespect, when other teams have got multi million pound signings on their bench and we’ve got acadamy players, it’s fact

You are absolutely correct, sometimes people do not like the truth, we have for a long time now been putting academy players on the bench, our bench is one of the weakest, if not the weakest in the EPL.

It's a likely case that we'll have nine 1st team squad players out for the Fulham game; Fulham will probably only have one such player out. What kind of bench do you expect with that number of our 1st team squad players out?

It's been a combination of unfortunate events:
  • successful national/Olympic teams reaching the finals of their competitions in the Summer (all 3 of which lost - an omen?)
  • no pre-season for most of our 1st team squad
  • new players coming in last minute
  • players not able to play the pressing game in the early matches because not fit/recovered enough from the Summer
  • Poor refereeing costing us a good goal in our first game seems to have set the tone (and Taylor's in the last game left something to be desired).
  • etc.
We'll get over it and will start moving up the table after the International Break and I expect the second half of the season to be a good one.

Meanwhile get behind the manager (who IMO is the best we've had for some while) and the team.

If everyone is fit I think our respective first choice elevens aren’t that far apart though Fulham’s looks a little better balanced. Their squad depth is far superior to ours though so with injuries there is no doubt they will field a better eleven on paper and it’s not controversial to say a lot of their bench would start for us right now. The good news is football isn’t played on paper, it’s played on grass and so anything can happen. On paper Man City have a far superior team to Bournemouth and look how that went.

I really hope you are right but we desperately need more depth especially in creative / wide attacking areas and left wing back. While some of the above is unfortunate a lot of that is just poor planning by the club. There’s no law that says you have to do your transfer business (ins and outs) at the very last minute yet we repeat that mistake so often.

Correct.
Both Parish and Glasner mentioned in the summer that a position that needed addressing was LWB.
We bought centre halves,a midfielder and forwards but the one position we didn’t address was LWB i.e anything but the position we planned to address.
In fairness , the departures of Anderson, Olise, Edouard and Ayew meant we had to bring in replacements to bolster the squad.
But it doesn’t look planned or strategic.
It all looks reactive.

Aha, Mitchell's fault then. 😎

Top post. Agree with it all.

Not really.
He's demonstrated he can defend at Premier League level over a few seasons now.
However, if you want to play Glasner's system to maximum efficiency you need an alternative option who can also attack and create i.e an authentic LWB.
Parish and Glasner name checked this a position they wanted to add, but for whatever reason it didn't happen.

I think it all looked strategic. We 'upgraded' quite a few positions, and to a degree mitigated the loss of Olise. Will a full strength team out we'll have a pretty decent team.

The fact that we didn't sign a LWB doesn't mean we didn't try.

You’re aiming that at the wrong person, I know!! I was just agreeing with someone about the quality of Fulham’s depth of squad compared to us while someone else seemed oblivious to that fact

The great thing about the PL is that anyone (ie the minnows) can beat anyone (the mighty) on their day. OK not every week but, as has been said elsewhere, having the biggest squad (of multimillionaire journeymen) on paper is no guarantee of a win. There was noticeably more urgency last two games so I hope they've been practicing finishing skills/mentality in training. How many of us have been shouting at their screens, "No don't lean back" or "Knee over the ball, keep it down", etc, etc. So if they can cut out the selfish and wild shots then, with the backing of a home crowd, I'm going for 3:1.

We’ve never had a particularly deep squad but when Roy was in charge it seemed we only had 11 players worthy of a starting place and not much on the bench. At the start of this season I thought we had a good first eleven and a decent bench. In part that’s because we had 16 players the manager felt comfortable giving game time to. With nine of them out injured we’re down to players who haven’t had game time. We need to play them and hopefully the 16 trusted players becomes 18 or 20 and our squad feels deeper.
