Flags.........& Politics.

The country was facing an enemy threatening invasion and the politics involved weren't the primary factor so trying to paint the war as a reaction to right wing extremism is just wrong. Idealists went on Spain to fight Franco but there weren't that many of them; the highest estimate is 4000 but it could have been 2000 and some of them fought on Franco's side.
Just as well I am not then!

I am examining why people would not welcome the growth of something in their own society that they had previously been helping to defeat.

Seeing our national flag hijacked and used by some, not all, who tend towards that something leaves an uncomfortable feeling.

What would be a good English flag would be the three lions on the white background as our footballers wore for internationals.

St.George is a fake, ideal for Farage & co.

We'll soon be flaggiing I feel, a passing phase of phoney patriotism.

😎

Lions being a commonplace sight in England.

This hits the nail on the head.

If someone's political position is very pro a particular war then they will romanise that war in language that apes the propaganda used at the time and afterwards.

But we know that the majority of people aren't that political and that war takes young men from families, often without their consent, with huge numbers dying in them.

When people use propaganda to describe what the motivations of those people were it's best to probably recognise that conscript armies would rather not be fighting. The romantised retelling only really works for volunteers which is always a minority.

Lions that have nothing to do with northern Europe are less 'fake' than a myth about a Christian martyr?

You just want to slag off anything to do with English nationalism. Is there any other nation you want to slag off for its traditions and myths? Or is it just blighty (the country you ran back to)?

God knows why you support the English cricket team Steely.....but only you knows what goes on in your noggin.

Let's get this straight

St George (14th century) = fake
Palestine (1967) = legit

Lol

Wait until he finds out dragons never existed and has to lampoon the Welsh

whenever you encounter a fecker with a Palestine flag, on the street , ask them.....

- what city is the capital of Palestine
- name one famous Palestinian ( non politician)

- the national food of Palestine
- the national dance , song, traditional-dress,

- any famous animal types from there.....unlike Frisian cows, Andalusian horse, Irish Wolfhound, Canada Goose, etc....
- famous historical people, institutions or art work of Palestinians.

- do Linguaphone or Berlitz do a Palestinian language module ?....the answer is 'no'....now see if you can bv.1lshit an Antifa type that you are learning 'Palestinian' through the Open University.

now maybe a Palestinian could answer those questions. It would be easy for a Scot, Welshman, or Norwegian talking about their own nation.

Other muslims, non-Palestinian, must surely be able to answer these questions ? Is it not paradoxical how little refuge is given to Palestinians in the neighbouring countries ?

Apart from the Flag , what does the average Antifa type know about Palestine ?

My wife tried this in London last year when a march went by the pub we were in and several of them dropped in. Which river? Which sea? No one knew either.

That’s hardly surprising. Most people aren’t well versed on what goes on in other countries, some not even in the next street.

They do though react to scenes of desperation and destruction, especially involving children, when they see them on TV. So they march, chant and yes, wave flags in support without knowing any of the historical background. Which is completely understandable.

100 years ago they would have been unaware. Not today. Here anyway. In the USA perhaps if Trump gets his way.

Why? If you go around shouting and protesting, calling for death of Israelis should you not know the background of the conflict? Many couldn’t even point out Palestine on a map. Don’t get me started on the total morons calling themselves “ queers for Palestine”. The most liberal country in the region, who have Pride events is… Israel.

Rent A Mob. Palestinian protest one week, Just Stop Oil the next, and probably some animal rights protest at a restaurant mid-week. Try and debate with them and you either get a tirade of abuse for daring to expose their ignorance or a gormless look in response. They really are a waste of police resources.

The shambolic waving of the 'Union Jack' at the Labour Conference when Labour Councils around the country are removing such flags.

ever noticed how the flags "Refugees Welcome Here" will often disappear around election time. Only to re-appear 5 minutes after the Polling stations close. I wonder why ?
