Considering that Christianity appears to have been stolen from pagan sun worship; then I perhaps have little faith that this Jesus character even existed.

Around 30 years ago I spent a lot of time at the Buddhist centre in Croydon. I can tell you that they did not get at all hang up over whether the Buddha existed or not. Christians on the other hand do not like that question generally.
