Farewell Eze?

England managers have now played him at left wing, left wing-back and right No 10 - none the positions he has played at Palace. He hardly touched the ball early on but ended up with 4 shots from about 12 yards out - none of which went into the net. I can't see England making much noise at the WC or him playing a major role

We all know Eze is inconsistent, the luxury at a club like us is you only need to be good, one in three games and that's worth 30 points a season, they will only talk about the good things and ignore the rest.

When you go to a big club, they have match winners in every position. There's such a thin line between success and failure at the top, you cant afford more than one poor game in a row, you're under intense spotlight and every mistake is highlighted. To win the league, every player has to be exceptional pretty much all of the time, you can have the odd poor performance because the rest of the team can carry you but you're competing along a world class squad. Managers just won't put up with it and you'll soon be dropped.

I'll never forget what Eze gave us and genuinely hope he goes on to have an amazing career with arsenal. But there's no way he's getting away with being as inconsistent there as he was with us.

All true. It looks as though Arsenal have paid a lot of money for an impact sub. Or their scouting team have been severely misled.

I just posted on talkshite that I thought Eze’s performance for England was a typical Eze average performance that we’ve seen time and time again.

Arsenal fans replied unsurprisingly with laughing emoji’s but they will pretty soon learn that Eze is a 5 or 6/10 or an 8 or 9/10, there is rarely consistency to his performances.

This is what I've been saying all along. If one expects great moments from him they will come every so often, but don't expect it all the time. Glasner found a role for him to play in a team related effort, and his contribution relied greatly on the effort of others, particularly JPM and IS, who shared the load and created distraction so he could do his thing.
He may end up doing well for Arsenal, but in the meantime I will credit Steve Parish for getting the money he did for him.

At Palace he also had zero competition for his place, so plays 90ms every week.

With Martinelli, Trossard and all, he'll be getting subbed on/off all the time.

IMO he'll have a real uphill struggle to make the England squad

I agree. When he first came to us I was in awe at the way he controlled the ball and glided around the pitch with his neat footwork spraying sublime passes to his mates. I named him on my Holmesdale profile as my favourite player.

However his contribution in last night's game showed up the inconsistency that we have often commented about on here. It must have been evident even to Lanzo. Certainly there were times when I shouted at the TV for the ball to be passed to him. He moved into spaces, but seemed invisible to the others. He missed a sitter and offered very little fire power in what was a dull, dreary and unexciting game. I would not be at all surprised if he doesn't hold down a regular place at Arsenal.

Arteta may be able to influence a change in the way he plays, but I doubt his ability to improve a player is any better than Ollie's.

All very interesting points of view. I agree with all of them…

I also feel Eze was ‘possibly’ at his ‘peak’ when he played for us. He was adored at Palace, and his performances reflected this. We forgave him when he made mistakes, because there were some games he virtually got us the 3points on his own.

The saying…’the grass is always greener’….springs to mind…he desperately wanted to test himself at the top level - so it will be interesting to see how his career either progresses or stalls at Arsenal

I think that any Player if they have the chance to play for a European club, its the easy life, too many fixtures for the Premier league clubs, and not the intensity of each game, Messi and Ronaldo would not be still playing if the majority of there career had been in England, like Rooney, Wilf etc.
