FA Cup 3rd Round Macclesfield

Canvot wasn’t watching the player behind him he got attracted to the ball. It’s basic defending and ultimately led to Macclesfield having a totally free header. By the time he realised the ball was over his head it was in the back of the net.
Both goals were down to the fact that they had the sun in their eyes .😂

Much has been made at the loss of several key players since November but I am sure the one we miss the most has gone to Arsenal.

We now have no one with his ball control, ability to switch play and, most of all, skill to score crucial goals.

We all said Eze would be difficult to replace and so far we haven't.

You would think the addition of Johnson would help our goal totals but like many other 'goal scoring imports' he is going to struggle simply because Wharton is not providing the through balls.

I am not at all sure the restoration of Munoz, Sarr and Kamada is going to improve things unless we also get new blood in in the form of players like Gallagher (who we can't afford)

Obviously not that we ball watch in defence. And concede from set pieces at around one or two a match. It was the sun, that's it.
I'm reminded of Rafa's Zonal marking. Anyone get the feeling we're doing that? You have to stay on your man no matter what. It's not that hard. If he loses you, give him a crafty nudge - just enough to put him off. Get big men on big men. That's basically it.

I felt our back 3 looked uncomfortable all game today.
Richards doesn’t suit the centre of the back 3, Guehi looked uncharacteristically shaky without Lacroix beside him and I don’t think Canvot is ready for first team football.
I wouldn’t underestimate the importance of the absence of Lacroix today in the overall performance of back 3, although you can see why he was rested as he has played continuously.
I really don’t like left footed players at RWB as inevitably they check back inside and rarely threaten the opposition.
It makes the team look lopsided with Devenny or Sosa in the role.

Another set piece conceded today which is a concern.
Glasner said it was a lack of quality that cost us, but if you look deeper I don’t think the selection, balance of the team and fighting spirit were right either.

To those who say don’t go overboard at one shock defeat is to overlook our poor form in the last ten or so games.
I’m sure things will improve when players return , but that could still be some weeks away.
Currently and in recent weeks we have looked ill equipped to meet the demands of our fixture schedule.

A back four would have been better today, in my opinion. Their obvious 2 banks of four could by pass our wing backs. Which was their plan. And everyone else's. Yet, we continue to play people like Devenny and Sosa wide. Devenny had too much work to do. Sosa can't play.

Haven't you worked it out yet, i will give you a clue, OLIVER GLASNER ISNT VERY GOOD AS A MANAGER, arrogant, tactically clueless, poor judge of a player, answer, GO AND GET A BETTER MANAGER, god some of you are so slow on the uptake.
I am starting to wonder, only player who seemed to be doing OK was Drakes-Thomas but he got subbed. Sosa as RB at the end? Johnson didnt do sweet FA, at least Uche tried...
The sooner Guehi goes the better as for Wharton? didnt seem at all interested.
Must not kick the cat!

I've had messages from folk I've not heard from for ages all taking the Mick about our result. Neverr felt so embarrassed about supporting the Palace. Expect I'll get over it, but at the moment it's difficult to take.

Also much as I like Devenny’s hard work and attitude we have to be honest that he’s not actually very good.

There is something in that, we have no clue at set pieces. It's reached the point where everyone knows it but nothing is improving here. There seemed to be basic lack of intent in winning the ball coming over. It's down to coaching.

I'm not sure he's a bad manager but managers do run their course. Quite quickly usually these days.
He’s a funny manager in that when he gets things just to his liking and with everything in sync then he gets great results. However, the moment something isn’t quite fine tuned it all falls to pieces. We saw this last season with an awful start and a great second half. We’ve seen it this season with a great start and the relegation form. It’s a pattern from his other clubs as well.

La Crux was the missing Lacroix today but seriously we desperately need to work on our set piece defending as you would have thought that playing with 3 centre half’s would make it the strongest part of our game but it’s clearly not.

We are particularly susceptible to anything played to the far post as our system appears to see our defenders getting sucked into the middle leaving the opposition wide open.
