Take a look back in Palace history, we must have had the largest number of crap finishers of virtually any team in the Premier League. The best were Johnson and Murray but boy have we had some duds.
Moyes was never interested in Munoz, he wants a right back, that can defend. Which isn't Munoz.

Losing was not the issue for me. It was the reaction after the goals were scored against us. We created chances in the early stages but after falling behind we hardly created anything worthwhile - i can recall Strand Larson having a half chance towards the end of the game. The other disappointing thing for me it was we played just like we did last season under Glasner. I can understand why this may have been but surely a new manager will want to stamp his identity and style on the team. There is a bit of work to be done and it will help focus everyone in training this week.

Sage spoke about this in preseason.
Essentially not having time to get his game plan embedded, so having to start the season with more Glasner tactics and slowly change things
But to be fair, in the first half there were some really nice periods of fluid play

Yes, it wasn't all bad on Saturday.
We just need to get through the window with JPM, Munoz and Sarr sorted - one way or the other. I think it will take time for a proper "Sage" team to emerge and certainly not before the first international break.
It could still be a good season, there may be a bit of a storm to be weathered first.
Munoz was criticised for his defensive performance, perhaps with some justification.
But he's never been a great defender - it's what he gives us going forward which is his unique selling point.
Against Everton he had a shot saved, made a trademark fantastic run behind their defence resulting in a header that just went wide, and still made forays forward.
He's likely to go and we will miss him, even though his potential replacement looks promising.

Yep, agree.
1st half was ok and as has been said typical Glasner ball.
Goals change games and we had 3 excellent chances, two of which hit the post. On another day we should have been leading at half time.
Sage said he would keep things simple at the beginning - 10 of the starting X1 were last season's team.
Yes, Mateta misses more than he scores, but he gets in the positions, so for me i'd have him in front of Larsen.
Those who were hoping Richards could control a back 3 were given the answer. Just not good enough to play regularly in the centre. Also slow to close down for the first goal (great strike though) and got beaten in the air for the second. Canvot's defending for the 2nd was also woeful, didn't anticipate the danger of Richard's missing it and just watched Barry head in despite standing a couple of feet away. He seems unable to attack a cross or prevent the striker from doing so.
None of the subs made a great impact and the slow build up play made it easy for Everton to defend deep.

I have opined before on HOL that Richards has a weakness aerially when the ball is delivered from wide either in an offensive or defensive phase.

The best indicator for how good a central defender is in the air is his goal threat / return in the opposition box;
Tony Adams, Steve Bruce, Laurent Blanc, John Terry, Harry Maguire, Virgil van Dijk, Gary Cahill, Scott Dan…etc
The last two weren’t even that tall but were fantastic in the air, some people just are.
Richards & Canvot aren’t much of a threat in the opposition box (whereas Chalobah was) and that is a perfect indicator of just how effective they are at getting on the end of stuff in and around our own box.

Yep Richards was pretty poor, and got completely done just before the first goal too. Swung a leg and Dewsbury Hall went straight past him.
I do really rate Canvot, but in the air, there is something not quite right. Is it bravery or anticipation? Often seams to be be sat watching like he was for their 2nd

Why? When we 2 goals down and 10 minutes to go, why still keep on side-passing in our own half? Go for it - better lose with three than not trying. Only one cross and JSL nearly scored.
Mateta again missed huge chances against Everton. With all this new fuss, time to let him leave. PS! Would not mind Bowen in!
There is a big issue with organisation. Andersen and Guehi could both organise the defence and were positionally good. In Andersen’s case he would make some bad errors but his organising was key. When we signed him and Guehi, he was the leader there for a while. Clearly Guehi then grew and surpassed him.
Since Guehi has left we have no good organiser at the back and all of them are positionally quite poor for this level. Even Lacroix was. He had the speed and athleticism to get himself out of trouble but you could see it in how many goals we conceded in the air and from set pieces.
Richards is solid but not great positionally. Canvot looks to have all the physical attributes to be good but definitely looks like Konate in that he makes awful errors. Sadly Riad’s skillset my not be relevant any more.
In any event we badly need an organiser at the back. We’ve need one since January and it is remarkable we haven’t addressed it. Maybe Disasi will play that role. If he doesn’t we are in trouble.
Lack of experience still got 4 years yet before he is even close to the finished article

They’ve already started on sage after only our first game, the gibberish he came out with, his mumbling French accent. He’s been likened to a French John Major or Kermit the frog
I struggled with some of what he came out with, but hopefully he’ll get a bit more confident in front of the cameras and a good win against city will shove it up their arses
