Everton vs. Crystal Palace match thread

In the post match press interview Ollie looked quite relaxed. Referring to the old saying “the monkey is off his back”. I am sure he, his coaches and the team felt great pressure to keep the run going. The break (for most) couldn’t come at a better time. I hope they head of off for a week’s holiday to relax and recover knocks, minor injuries etc ready for the attritional two months to come.

I had a feeling it wasn't going to end well for us after Mateta scuffed his shot wide in the second half.

You can't keep letting the opposition off and expect to win games at this level.

Both goals conceded were cheap, but that's Everton for you. In pure footballing terms they deserved nothing from the game. Lacroix was a little unfortunate, not initially realising he had a player behind him and when he did he pulled his leg away but couldn't avoid contact. And that ref gave us very little all afternoon so a pen it was. And the Munoz clearance was reminiscent of when Lacroixs clearance came off Guehi at Brighton last season.

Only ourselves to blame ultimately. Glasner has consistently complained of the inability to finish opponents off and this was another example.
Spot on, we have been saying all season that not taking our chances will bite us on the bum.
With regard to the penalty, can’t argue with the decision but I think LaCroix actually slipped which made him make contact so not apportioning any blame.
Mateta’s chance where he dinked over Pickford was clear cut but his first touch made it mor3 difficult. His scuffed shot should have been buried but perhaps Sarr should have passed to him rather than shooting. Our final 3rd decision making and lack of cutting edge needs sorting, but I am very happy with our season so far

Apparently our xG (yes I know) to actual goals was the second worst in the league only above Man U. Eventually this had to come back and bite us and of course it was Everton.

The penalty was probably a penalty but it was one of those that seem to be on trend this year where the player steps into the tackling player and then goes down. I've seen worse given this year where I believe the attacker is actually obstructing the defender but it seems fouls are seen differently depending on the context (Attacking/Defending).

We have been very wasteful/unlucky in front of goal in our last two games. Against Liverpool we should have been at least 3 goals up by halftime. Same vs Everton where bad luck with Mitchell skimming the post and Guehi and Mateta having their shots saved in the 1st half. Mateta's two misses allowed Everton to claw their way back into the game. Unusual for Lacroix to mistime a challenge. He did seem to get stuck in the turf mid-slide.

Their second was unfortunate after a great save from Deano. Can't blame Munoz for trying to clear the ball. I did feel that Lerma could have done more in stopping the cross coming over. It all looked a bit half hearted to me.

Tbf. The football in the 1st half was spectacular. The whole team flying forward as one.
When they came out 2nd half the energy had gone and the ball started going across the back, that allowed Everton back in game. A rash tackle in a corner of the penalty area and Everton had all the momentum.
Very much the same as the Liverpool game. I realise that with the amount of energy put in during the 1st half they will tire but they needed to keep pushing for another 10mins, after all these days we do have competent subs.
The Hill Dickhead Stadium was great decent sized seats and the standing rail we need at the Palace.

Fatigue. Recent trip to Poland. Get used to it.

I'm still pissed off with it. This must be what it's like to support a good team. Expecting wins. I think I'll do a Willo on it from now on.
What you gonna swallow a dictionary and support Brighton 😆
