European football

Our pitch is only 101 metres long. It has to be 105 metres, which has been approved by losing a few rows in the Whitehorse. So this will no doubt be our first part of ground redevelopment this summer. ( It is already wide enough 68m. which we have Malcolm Allison to thank for. He persuaded the board to widen the pitch and improve the playing surface on his arrival, as well as turning us red and blue and giving us the Eagles nickname.)
Also Glasner was saying he needs three more players.
So our board has some hefty decision making.
We need to hold onto our manager, coaching staff and players.
Considering we are in Europe now, coupled with the fantastic support and atmosphere around our club, it is hard to see why anyone would leave if we build on our success ( other than money of course).
After everything Parish has achieved for our club (which is already massive) I am very confident both he and our board will find all the necessary solutions to launch us higher than most of our dreams.
Bring it on!! We have arrived.

I am pretty sure it is fine as it is. It is not a retrospective ruling on existing stadiums. Any new developments or new stadium have to comply. But on the off chance the new stand doesn't happen we won't have to change it.

My Source? Steve Parish. In his long interview earlier in the year

Fast forward to 19 mins for the exact quote - or start at 18 mins for the context

We are not allowed to host international matches because of the short pitch. But for European matches if we are restricted by our stadium as it is we are ok. But you have to adjust the pitch if you can. And we can by redeveloping as part of the new stand.

I still can’t get my head around us being in Europe… madness and exciting.

What a magic magic day it was. So much can change now. If we add a couple and keep the team together… I really think we could do ok in Europe.

Crazy crazy days ahead and I love it.

I believe Burnley played 6 games in the Europa League going out to Olympiakos over two-legs in the Play-Off.
The format must have changed since that time.
That season they finished 15th in the PL having finished 7th the season before.
It changed last season with the new expanded format. One large league, top 8 go through, next 16 have playoff, bottom 12 go home. All 3 UEFA comps, think that's how it went.

That is 36 teams, we dont have to play 35 home and away, do we 😎, Manure have played 14 with one to go.

Is it 110 yards?

One rumour today is that Guehi is intent on running down his contract with a view to joining one of the European giants for free (presumably like Alexander Arnold).

No idea if true, but if he did would it be the worst thing in the world?
He's our captain, we have Europe to contend with and he demonstrates consistent excellence which we would miss.

Sure, we would forego a transfer fee.

But against that another season would give the club an opportunity to see what a fit Riad could bring (or another defender if purchased).
Guehi staying also maintains our strong defensive spine which has been the main component our good form in recent months.
I'd be happy if he stays another season, even if the financial people wouldn't.

He seems like a really levelheaded and decent person. There are 2 ways to look at it. One is he just honours his contract and leaves having had a superb few years at palace where he has been outstanding. The other is we get all pissed off with him because he does a Trent and we get nothing for a £100 million pound player.

I say let him stay, see how we do next year and if he goes we have well and truly had our moneys worth, wish him well and thanks for the memories

Real Betis, Celta Vigo, Freiburg, Lille and Lazio are the representative's from Spain, Germany, France and Italy for next seasons Europa League, not much to fear there, so Champions League the following year, that should get the players thinking 😍

Selhurst is the same size as Anfield - 101m x 68m (110y x 74y in old money)

Wiki not clear on a minimum size but 100m is the lowest indicated for a EUFA Category 1 or 2 stadium

Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles are in, so that's a win-win if we play them. And Midtyland and FC Copenhagen could end up in the UEL and I've always imagined going away to Denmark for reasons I cannot fathom, but cud be a dream come true, or Anderlecht easy trip on the Eurostar, playing a team in mauve in a weird stadium enjoying delicious Belgian booze, that's what Europe's all about, it's all so very exciting. Be like Jeux Sans Frontiers.

Ever since I was a kid I’ve yearned for European football at selhurst, I used to see English teams in Europe back in the 70’s and 80’s playing great old European names like Borussia Monchengladbach, Hadjuk Split, St Etienne, Red Star Belgrade, Anderlect, Dinamo Moscow, Lokomotive Leipzig etc how great would it be to play Eintract Frankfurt or Glasgow Rangers at Selhurst?

I don’t care about the impact on the rest of the season and can our squad cope? I seriously can’t wait, bring on the draw
