The young Hague had such promise.
Such a disappointment.

Anti white propaganda.
As if white people were the problem here.
It's like the sex pest ads, white people do it, black people save them
This now all seems to be a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ this brings Starmer down. The mood music from Labour MP’s seems to be beyond despair because they know this s*** is going to taint them all, no matter what.
Firstly, McSweeney is a dead-man walking. No way can he still be in position by this time next week. The question is will his sacrifice be enough to save Starmer? I guess if you are a Labour supporter then you might argue there is a logic to keeping him in post until after the May local elections and then ditching him after that but beyond that? Tarnished now beyond redemption.

Hague was the Chief Investigator into child abuse claims in North Wales in the 80s.
His main achievement was to prematurely shut the inquiry down with no further questions.

Unfortunate timing for them, what with the big two traditional parties were doing so well in the polls.
I think this is a seismic shift. Looking at it in through the traditional political hack lens no longer cuts it.
I think this is the final nail in the coffin of Labour from which they never recover.

Tony Benn diary entry on Peter Mandelson (1987):
“Monday 16th February 1987. Today we had a meeting of the NEC and the Shadow Cabinet, the first since Neil Kinnock became leader. Kinnock introduced the meeting and spoke for about twenty minutes. We went on to Peter Mandelson who said a few words. I find Mandelson a threatening figure for the future of the Party.”
I think the whole 'New' Labour schtick is done and dusted now given that Mandelson was piviotal in bringing it about and is now, quite literally, exposed as a traitor.
Looking down the line on this, what it does is probably give Angela Rayner another shot at the top spot as Wes Streeting will just have to run for cover now, given how he is a protege of Mandelson. There is talk of Lammy perhaps stepping in to take over (LOL) if Starmer steps down but I still suspect that Labour will want Starmer to be in place for the May local elections to take the heat from the fall out and then I suspect it is an open field for Rayner. Not sure who else there is. Yes, she is tainted by corruption but just the 'normal', run-of-the-mill kind. Not the full on, and potentially worse to come (Lets not forget the positions Mandleson held in the EU in a period which the emails have yet to emerge for) acts of full on betrayal that Mandleson engaged in.

One doesn't have to buy into all his politics, but Benn was one of the last of the good guys.
He'd probably be smeared as a right-wing extremist nowadays.

correct. The same as the timing of the sacking of a lame-duck football manager. You wait until all the calamities are over and only appoint a newcomer when the ship will be sailing on calmer seas. Starmer is already gone and everybody knows it.This now all seems to be a case of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ this brings Starmer down. The mood music from Labour MP’s seems to be beyond despair because they know this s*** is going to taint them all, no matter what.

I wouldn't go that far.
Like Foot, Benn was an honest guy who thought his politics was best for the country.
I completely disagreed with about 90 percent of what he believed.
But he was honest.....which isn't typical in modern politics on the left anymore.
