Dwight McNeil

It’s a disgrace. Who in their right mind seals a permanent 20 million deal, then turns around and decides on a loan deal with obligation to buy after everything goes smoothly?

I feel bad for McNeil. The board needs to issue to an apology.
i disagree. Yes, Palace haven't acted overly professionally but transfer deadline day deals fall through all the time.

The change to a loan made perfect sense once the Mateta deal fell through.

Everton were only prepared to let him leave once the George deal was completed so the timeframes were always tight. He's not had a great fitness record over the last few seasons so the medical was always going to be rushed.

Probably best all round that it fell through IMHO.

Incidentally - how can West Ham announce a signing at 11.30 last night!!

Spot on.... Dwights Missus would be buggered in the real world if anything actually bad happened.

Perhaps with players returning from injury, the need for him to join was not so great?

Kamada back in full training, Nketiah back soon, Mateta staying etc…

When the new manager is appointed, I’m sure he/she will want to bring in some of their own players.

Sure, DM's failed transfer is being used by the media to highlight a harsh reality which can affect footballers in transfer windows many of whom are not in the Premier League on seven figure salaries. DM is not an 18 year old academy graduate who doesn't know how football is and yes he is incredibly well remunerated in his current role. Standard media fare ("build them up to knock them down") seems to be leading to lots of negative Palace coverage right now. Perhaps this is another price of success less obvious than having your players cherry picked.

Even so I, for one, would be seriously effed off if what happened to DM happened to me. Put yourself in his position: a lack of playing time at Everton and likely what he sees as a chance to reignite his career after a career affecting injury went up in smoke with no explanation and no dialogue. He is reported to have come to London for talks and medicals, but then to have been ignored by the club with Everton telling him it was a done deal (debatable I know). This makes it seem even worse and does cannot reflect well on Palace. A theme of clerical incompetence in various forms - and which you just do not seem to hear about at other clubs - is now quite perceptible over the last 12 months.

Football is not like most walks of life and DM is hardly the first player to feel stitched up or let down. Not knowing why, and the "radio silence" from Palace, is behind his and his partner's frustrations coming out. I would imagine any contact from Palace to sympathize or apologize might be litigious in today's world, which is a pity for many reasons and does not help even if it is the right thing to do.

I think there is a lesson here clubs including Palace can learn around ways they can treat prospective employees better. Who knows when negative PR from events like this can come back to haunt us when we need players like DM more desperately than we did this window? Anyone remember the Ross McCormack thread?

I can't see what his problem is, he is still employed by Everton and getting paid handsomely. After Mateta deal fell through, we didn't want to buy him, only loan which Everton refused.
It's life just get on with it, he was injury prone anyway. Palace are left with a sulking French lump as Milan pulled out of the deal, didn't see Parish moaning how it was effecting his mental health and how let down he is, it happens people get on with it.

I think that the transfer window is ridiculous - it should be scrapped - it is more about "good TV" than anything else nowadays.
If this young man has not been told the reason then I agree that it is unacceptable.
If it is simply because the Mateta deal didn't go through, then say so and be done with it.
We are all guilty of forgetting that these are just young men - boys in some cases - living their dreams and yes, getting paid well to do so but at the end of the day they are human beings like the rest of us.
The world of sport used to be fun but it is all about money now and people often get forgotten long the way.
I for one am fast falling out of love with football and sadly do not see it doing anything more than getting worse.
I agree, who does it benefit? Just the players and their agents as far as I can see. They play clubs off against one another, knowing there is a ticking clock in the background. I think it should be scrapped as well, or at least allow loans throughout the season to help the smaller clubs out.

Players need to be playing, not warming a bench or worse. As for McNeil, would we really want to rely on a rushed medical given his injury history? Chances are the Club would be tying themselves to an expensive contract for a number of years. I know they take out insurance policies but we have been stung that way in the past. Ironically we nearly stung AC Milan yesterday in the same way. Luckily for them they had time to conduct a thorough medical and decided he wasn't worth the risk. I guess Mateta will now have his knee op and we will try to punt him in the summer given that he seems to have burnt his bridges with us.

Our worries are over his girlfriend wants to play for us! Desperate for that penthouse on top of Nestle which includes a lovely view of the Fairfield Halls a spectacular view of the Queen's Gardens drunks and a years supply of Kit- Kat registered *Trade Mark* and three years of toxic milk formula which she can share with that big baby Matita.

TL;DR;

Fk him. All he did was kick Wilf anyway.

It would be fine if the summer window ended in the summer before the season started, and if there was a winter break i.e. the windows did not overlap with playing schedules. Also, different leagues have different windows which complicates things.

As things are I cannot see the point of them either.

There are conflicting reports on that.

Agreed the player and everyone concerned needs to and will move on.
