Dwight McNeil

He was injured and N'diaye and Grealish did well in the wide positions for Everton.
When N'diaye went to AFCON , McNeil became involved again.
McNeil would have been a squad player at Palace , but I don't see that as a bad thing as a different option.
He would have been our best set piece and corner taker which is such an important part of the modern game.

It's not the end of the world that he hasn't joined, but I feel he would have offered something different than others in the squad - particularly if you're looking for somebody to provide pinpoint crosses to Larsen.
Totally agree. It's not the end of the World but he would of been a good addition to a very weak squad.

Makes sense to me saying paperwork not done in time. I expect with Mateta not going the agreement to loan and then pay 20 million was seen as to risky having just spent 48 million?

Did you see our bench on Sunday?
We had a number of injuries.

I don’t object to buying squad players but we seem to be looking to surplus from bigger clubs. Esse, Franca and Ahamada seem to have scared us off taking risks on prospects.

11th hour collapse of McNeil loan typifies complete mess of another transfer window, admittedly not helped by Matata's unprofessional historionics.
We spent around £80 million plus a loan. That’s more business than any one else in this window.
The impact of these players remains to be seen but Parish has splashed the cash.

We didn't really do any business in the summer everyone else did and how many other teams have lost 2 star players should have been 3 with mateta simple answer none.

Reports starting to suggest we decided to pull out and that it wasn't just a bureaucratic error.

This does suggest though that right up until the deadline we still weren't certain of what we even wanted from the window.

...It's incredible how such a highly paid man could f*** so much up
I see a self proclaimed bet wetter has appeared then. Because being the only chairman to ever keep us in the premier League for more than 1 season let alone 12/13 seasons is so much of a f*** up

Winning our 1st ever trophies last season is a f*** up.

On the edge of building a new stand is such a f*** up.

This is Palace's most successful period in its history..... If you're still unhappy then when will you be happy? Only fickle people would see the past 2 or 3 chairman's and still be unhappy with how things are going currently. Yes hes not perfect but no chairman is. Its not easy to just become the next Aston Villa simply because we won an FA cup and finished 12th. We are STILL just Crystal palace. 1 successful season doesn't suddenly make good managers and good players want to stay here instead of leaving for bigger and better things.

Glasner, Olise, Geuhi, Eze, Mateta have all left or leaving on their own accord. We simply couldn't keep them. So what do you want Parish to do ? Wave his wand and make them change their minds? No he cannot do that. So what you're currently seeing is the result of that. Poor performances, A manager thats possibly lost the dressing room and no squad depth because why would you give a manager a tonne of money when he wont sign a new contract?

The players were buying now is to just keep afloat and give the next manager something to build with. Things may get better.... Things may get worse. Its how it is supporting Crystal Palace. If it's not for you then maybe go and support Liverpool or Man city because apparently things are loads better up there..... Until you ask their fans of which you realise they're in a car crash too.

It's hard to work out exactly what's going on with the tsunami of click bait, the majority of which is probably just made up nonsense, no better than the guess work on here.

It seems likely to me that when Mateta's move collapsed there was an immediate shortfall in finances of £40mil and a player we didn't expect to have. So suddenly we didn't need an extra forward and couldn't justify the money to spend on fees or wages.
It seems logical to me.

There’s a very powerful message on social media by his wife about the failure of this transfer and the impact on her husband’s emotional health. She is quite critical of the way the football business treats players and thinks it’s acceptable to do so because they get well paid.
I think what comes through is the way these last minute deals mess with peoples lives when they collapse and how clubs cover their a*ses by blaming the other side or saying nothing. She says that McNeil was left in tears with no one telling him why the deal wasn’t completed. That’s unacceptable. This “window “ nonsense doesn’t help but clubs need to act more responsibly. Our Director of Football hasn’t covered himself in glory with this window and I suspect his days are numbered.
I don’t necessarily blame Parish but as Chairman he should apologise to this young man on behalf of the club and make a statement.

I think that the transfer window is ridiculous - it should be scrapped - it is more about "good TV" than anything else nowadays.
If this young man has not been told the reason then I agree that it is unacceptable.
If it is simply because the Mateta deal didn't go through, then say so and be done with it.
We are all guilty of forgetting that these are just young men - boys in some cases - living their dreams and yes, getting paid well to do so but at the end of the day they are human beings like the rest of us.
The world of sport used to be fun but it is all about money now and people often get forgotten long the way.
I for one am fast falling out of love with football and sadly do not see it doing anything more than getting worse.

Agreed it does look bad. I am not directly aware of the process but can’t help but feel he must or should have had communication with matt Hobbs?

Makes you realise even more what a top professional and top man all round Marc guehi is. How must he have felt after his deal collapsed last year. He must’ve been gutted and probably fuming inside, but he knuckled down and got on with it. No moaning about the way he was treated or about his mental health and he gave us another good half a season, which considering the points we gathered the first few months of the season could end up keeping us in the division

Was it that we just ran out of time or did we pull out because we didn't sell JPM. I doubt we will ever know.

If it was genuinely the paperwork then that is really disappointing. Surely these deals are just cut and paste jobs so someone in the office could have filled out most of the standard stuff e.g. name and address leaving the specific bits still being negotiated.

I think you make some very good points.

And I think it's funny, because when talking to fans of other clubs more often that not they perceive their clubs to be in a mess !

I judge Steve Parish's performances on issues that I think he has control over. For example you mention Guehi and Eze leaving because we couldn't keep them. Guehi's departure was a known fact for months. And Ebs had a release clause inserted in the last contract he signed. But Parish can't control the timing of any incoming bids for those players. What he could control was, in Guehi's case, the timing of the players departure. And I think he made a complete balls up of that.

Then we come to the Glasner situation. Once Glasner effectively handed his notice in back in October, Parish had a decision to make. Glasner put him in a difficult position. If results went well, keeping Glasner on would be considered a masterstroke . Instead it's been going the other way. It is entirely possible that Glasner has lost the dressing room but even then potentially only after Glasners decision was put into the public domain. The lack of squad depth was evident throughout last summer - pre Glasners decision. Parish could have managed that but instead his focus was on something he had no control over - the UEFA ruling.

Everybody on this site has signed up to the Palace ' rollercoaster '. In two wanton acts of child cruelty, I've inflicted it on my kids as well. And they are on theirs !

So my main point here is that there are many moving parts in the football world. And a lot of them Parish / Palace can't control. But the bits that they can I don't think they do particularly well.
