Do we agree ?

I can't argue with any of this.

With regard to your disillusionment with the Premier League, which I share, it would be easy to dismiss this as the moans of an older supporter looking back on halcyon days.
However, my son who is in his twenties and many of his friends share the view too.
It is not restricted to the older generation.
VAR, rip off ticket prices, amended kick off times, over hyped media coverage, greed, cheating...I could go on...

This affects supporters of all ages and may explain why lower league football has it's appeal with it's more traditional focus and genuine atmosphere.
I know some football followers who have also mentioned : Parking a fair distance from the ground, traffic congestion, queues to purchase refreshments.
These same people watch games at 'Grassroots' level and enjoy the overall experience.
I for one 'Infests' some non-league grounds in Sussex and Surrey by my presence !

The Premier League is now geared for the armchair fan which these days I mostly am, apart from the odd away game up here. Most matches are accessible and the kick off times don’t matter if you don’t have to leave your house. I can understand the frustrations of turning up at Selhurst every week, and the cost of going to multiple away games. Having said that, if I still lived in Beckenham I would be watching every match. I can remember many many crap matches in the championship where we could only dream of being in the Prem. And here we are. Still.

Agreed. I actually loved when you could turn up on a match day and buy a ticket there and then or pay on the turnstile. I work a lot and never really know when I can go until last minute (hence no season ticket). It felt more ‘real’ when we were in the league below (no I don’t particularly want to be back there thank you very much). VAR… Can piss off. But the one that gets me the most, changing fixture dates. Drives me insane. 3pm on a Saturday should be match day and time for league games with the occasional switch to a Sunday if absolutely necessary. Nobody other than Palace fans and Brentford fans wanted to watch that game last Sunday. The 4pm kick of was ridiculous too, who the f*** wants to watch Villa v wet spam as the main event. Should have been city v chelsea. Rant over

I agree to a certain extent, it can be pretty turgid watching palace at times, but it could also be turgid whatever division we’re in. At least we’re premier league turgid now 🤣
Most proper palace fans who’ve been around for any length of time know where we’re at and what the best we can expect is.

Now in the great world of TV football you can get the following

Friday evening
Sat lunchtime
Sat 3pm
Sat 5.30 pm
Saturday 7.30-8.00
Sunday 2 pm
Sunday 4.30pm
Sunday 7.00pm
Monday 8.00pm
It is only in the Tv companies interests. I am giving up my season ticket next year as I refuse to put up with this any longer - and I can watch it on TV!

Can’t read it as it is behind a paywall. From the headline I am assuming it is basically saying we aren’t very good and haven’t developed as a club or something along those lines?

If so there’s some truth there but I’d ask what people expect for a club of our size? Staying in the EPL over many years is success. I’d also look to cautionary tales such as when Charlton sacked Curbishly to ‘push on’ and pushed on all the way to League 1.

What is a bit disappointing this season is the football from the end of last season is nowhere in sight and isn’t going to be. We will be organised and grind out some results but what we aren’t going to see is any fluid or exciting football
Well probably not before Wharton comes back, Esse beds in and Eze re-ignites.

The clowns didn't sack Curbishley. He wanted a new challenge and so left at the end of a season although it was announced before that. But he was a bit miffed about their fans complaining.

For me, if you take away the money aspect, following a club is a soap opera and although I don't want us going down if I had to watch them in Championship or League 1 I would still support the team and enjoy some games and not enjoy others. I used to love watching Palace in C'ship, especially the away games. And if we went down I wouldn't be pining for the good 'ol days when we were in Premier League I'd just be paying and attending in the hope we'd win the game on that particular day.

Utter crap written by an ar**hole who could well be an Arsenal fan! Insulting to write an article questioning why our club even exists, as if winning the league is all that matters. We’re all a bit down after yesterday’s result but this is the best Palace squad and manager we’ve had since the 80’s and it’s being strengthened with each window. Dougie and Steve are doing a grand job building a club on a limited budget. Our academy is state of the art and hopefully the new stand will be completed in the next 2 years.
As a palace fan of some 60 years I’ve never been more optimistic about our club.
Any school kid with a laptop can write drivel.

Correct. He decided not to extend his contract.
Whilst at Charlton he signed our current goalkeeper coach Dean Kiely. He also signed Chris Powell, Marcus Bent and Herman Hreidarsson.Danny Murphy was also one of his many signings.

Quote The rest of the season will probably be okay, perhaps slightly better. Next season will almost certainly be okay. Revenue and budget should guarantee that. But how much longer can this go on until everyone involved needs to feel something more than okay?

Thats just drivel, the way the PL is set up we cant compete with the top teams, this season is a bit strange but next season it will be back to the same top 4 etc. Maybe the top teams should feck of and play in their European league?

The article had a dismissive and insulting tone but there is a fair point in there - whereas Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham and Brentford have been progressive with a distinctive attacking style, for ten years we've been treading water, and winning by out-battling teams or relying on one or two stars - although I do think this squad does display genuine progress from ten years ago, and from five years ago too. It looked like that progress was about to happen last back end, but we know what's happened since and we have shown our usual resilence to turn it around. We are basically the new Coventry City - 1967 to 2001 they stayed in the top flight and were top half twice. As for our image, to some we are likable, ardently supported and charismatic while many others, quite fairly, will see us in the grand scheme of things as a gaily coloured suburban irrelevance. There's no Palace brand of football, we've got nowhere near Europe, unlike Brighton and Burnley, Brentford have flirted, Bournemouth will be there and Fulham are threatening. But considering our less than megabucks ownership we've done great to establish ourselves, and I think progress is happening under Glasner, but injuries and exits have stalled it. The writer is far from the only person to have asked what we are trying to achieve in the top flight beyond survival, and we can't tread water forever. If and when this new stand gets built, that I think will go a long way to quelling this kind of disrespect, otherwise we might reasonably be seen as basically a championship outfit gatecrashing the premier league.
