That's a great photo, isn't it. I only became aware of Hy Money a few months ago when I saw her book 'Hy On Palace' in a local charity shop and prompty bought it. I'd never heard of her beforehand. It's a good thought to contact Hy, although I don't know whether she owns the copyright to her photos or whether the club does.
 
The other person I'd love to be able to contact is John Cartwright, who coached the team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1977 and again in 1978. I think he's still alive, albeit in his mid 80s nowadays.

I'm sure there are some fantastic photos of Palace through the ages. I remember in the day a number of Fiona Richmond and the team having fun in the communal bath doing the rounds!!

My brother was friendly with Dave and Martin Hinshelwood. They both went to my brothers wedding .Dave was married to Albert Parr's,the local funeral directors daughter .

was it 77 that 40k watched the final went to both but cant remember if both was 40k or just one , but was a big turnout

Yes. I was there that day. We would have won had it not been for Joe Jordan flattening Budgie, who was still groggy when the corner from which the United equaliser came in. But we'd more than matched them and Dave Swindlehurst's goal was brilliantly worked.

'Team of the Eighties'. It didn't quite work out, but what a side: Cannon, Nicholas, Gilbert, Hilaire, Francis, Swindlehurst. And Jerry Murphy, who promised so much. In a way, I felt that was more a Palace team than the current one, coming as it does from all over the world. That said, I did hear a story that these lads had all been bought by Chairman Ray Bloye in that he used to visit the parents of talent-spotted players who were registered with other clubs who then mysteriously came Palace's way. Can it have been true? Consecutive F. A. Youth Cup winners. Having just put four on Newcastle U.18 away from home, it would be terrific if it could happen all over again.

My reason for supporting Palace was that team. People in the area all supported that Palace team. And then it fell apart as usual. People actually wanted the Palace stickers in the playground in those days

I was there too, scored at the away end, deep cross from Ian Walsh and big Dave rose above his marker with an angled downward header across Gary Bailey's despairing dive. We played with great composure, several really well constructed moves and breaks and when we got near their goal you could hear a few of their girl fans scream with anxiety. Jordan equalised in the seventh minute of injury time before turning his name into Katie Price. 🙂

Yeah, I've just double checked, and that was the case. He was on agood little run actually, scoring the second goal in the 2-0 win against Man City and the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win against Arsenal before the one that we've been discussing at Old Trafford. Seven goals in the first 16 games of the season wasn't a bad start to the season, but then the goals dried up for him and, before we knew it, he was off to Derby County.
