Dan Casey

That's the chap, just looked it up.

In the 2024/25 season, he netted 13 goals in 16 games across all competitions, making him the top scorer for the Palace U21s.

Sent him to Bromley it seems.

Just looked at who we have sent out on loan:

  • Matheus França (Attacking Midfield, age 21) – Loaned to Vasco da Gama until the end of the season.

  • Joe Whitworth (Goalkeeper, age 21) – Loaned to Exeter until May 31, 2026.

  • David Ozoh (Defensive Midfield, age 20) – Loaned to Derby County until May 31, 2026.

  • Tayo Adaramola (Defender, age not specified) – Loaned to Leyton Orient for the season.

  • Jemiah Umolu (Forward, age not specified) – Loaned to Bromley for the season.

  • Franco Umeh-Chibueze (Forward, age not specified) – Loaned to Portsmouth for the season.

  • Danny Imray (Defender, age not specified) – Loaned to Blackpool for the season.

Btw, are we Chelsea?

I asked Grok about this:

Gary Lineker was not typically described as a "rapid" striker compared to most during his era. His game was built on intelligence, positioning, and clinical finishing rather than raw pace or explosive speed.

Lineker was known for his exceptional goal-scoring instincts, often being in the right place at the right time, and his ability to finish chances with precision.

He was quick, but his speed was not his defining trait—his movement off the ball, anticipation, and composure in front of goal set him apart. Compared to other strikers of his time, like Ian Rush or Marco van Basten,

Lineker's style was less about physical dynamism or outpacing defenders and more about exploiting space through clever runs. For example, Rush was known for his relentless work rate and speed, while van Basten combined technical brilliance with athleticism. Lineker's strength lay in his efficiency and predatory instincts, as evidenced by his 48 goals in 80 appearances for England and his Golden Boot at the 1986 World Cup.
I'd argue the poacher's instinct was very much turn of pace (in the head and in physical terms) so as to be in the right place at the right time. He was of course a natural and pathological finisher as well.

The late Howard Kendall would agree: Gary Lineker Hall Of Fame profile.

I think he was fast enough.

Lineker basically mastered the role of a striker, which made it look like he was a tap in merchant.

But that ability is gold.

Agreed - it's sad in some ways how people below a certain age do not realise how great he was for England and Leicester/Everton/Barca/Spurs/England (I do not really count Grampus Eight).

The only striker I've seen since who reminds me of him in terms of movement (nowhere near as good) is Javier "Chicarito" Hernandez at Man United some years back.

Yep and maybe a sensible guy, who assumes that he will get his chances of 1st team football with us quicker than at Arsenal.
At Arsenal if you are good enough you are old enough. Dowman and Nwaneri made the first team at 15 and Myles-Skelly is an England international at 18, a few months older than Casey - who has yet to make a significant impact at U-21 club level, as I understand it

Linekar was asked in a recent interview about what he thought he's greatest asset was and he said he's pace!!

Basically described himself as lightning quick.
