What’s the deal with this guy? Are we ever going to see him in a palace shirt again? is he still getting back to fitness?

Doucourè will go the same way as Chadi Riad, he will slowly make a comeback only to break down again with another injury.

I am not expecting our club to get any meaningful contribution from Cheik between now and the expiry of his contract.
He is looking stronger , Riad got injured before he even got a run in the team , and still gets injured , Cheik had set backs during recovery and now getting valuable minutes in with under 21s , once hard tackles come in we will know for sure if he is fully back

Maybe a little more optimism is required her.
I’m not sure any player revels in being long-term injured.
Competing to become a pro, I don’t suppose too many think, “Wahey- a major injury! I can not play and doss around for two seasons.”

Time was when we rejoiced in their recoveries eg John Salako after a year out (ACL).
Or we admired the likes of Simon Rodger battling through multiple knocks.
If CD comes back in at CDM, it’s a real bonus. Would take some of the strain off of AW

So what does the club do, wait around another season for Doucoure hoping for the best?
No serious football club can do that , harsh as it sounds.
He's nowhere near matchday squads and is not completing games at reserve level.
If, as expected, the club brings in a midfielder today Doucoure will be a further step away and he already has four ahead of him in the pecking order.

Doucoure was great for us when he joined and has been very unlucky with injurues.
As was Nathan Ferguson, Conor Wickham and it would seem Riad too.

If Doucoure can get back to the level he was and stay fit it would be a massive bonus for us. Like a new signing. However, like you say we should plan for him not playing again.

Same with Riad. Difference between him and Doucoure is Riad has had multiple different injuries and has no track record of quality play at this level. I think he may be done at this level to be honest

100%. Would love to be wrong, but its hard to see him playing at this level again.

Unless we significantly trim today, it will be hard for him to get anywhere near the match day squad.

Club has a duty of care he was injured playing for us so you just can't kick him to oneside , its only one serous injury which has had set backs in recovery , which now seems that is finally getting stronger

Nowhere did I suggest ' kicking him aside.'
The club is honouring his contract and have provided full medical support.
I hope he gets back to his best, but you can't build and plan for a season on hope.
And I reiterate, if as expected we bring in a central midfielder today, he slips further down the pecking order.

I looked at our midfield if fit number 3 at least , but we need someone who can score between 7 and 10 goals in midfield , which we don't have 😢

Wouldn’t it be nice to just see a fully fit and mobile back to his best Doucoure and Wharton play together for a season. That would be so good to see.
